STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, or industrial building structures and installations in various states of alteration, construction, and repair; to determine that construction, alterations, and repairs are in compliance with City ordinances and adopted International Code Council building codes
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years experience in residential or commercial construction inspection for a municipality; and/or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Applicants with existing and additional I.C.C. certifications for items such as building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing will be given preference
LICENSING & TRAINING:
Valid State Driver's License- National Incident Management System (NIMS) training based on assignment.

I.C.C. Residential Building Inspector certification within 6 months of employment.
- Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Conducts field inspections of residential and commercial type projects in various stages of construction, alteration and repair.
- Conducts field inspections of manufactured home installations per AZ Department of Housing guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other related codes as adopted by the City.
- Inspects completed work, enters inspection results in database system and prepares the proper forms to approve the issuance of the certificate of occupancy when applicable.
- Writes correction notices and follows-up to ensure required changes.
- May issue building permits.
- Meets with contractors, architects and owners to provide code information on construction procedures and practice.
- May inspect City buildings and structures.
- Maintains appropriate building inspection files.
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- General knowledge of building construction, electrical, plumbing, concrete, carpentry and foundation work
- Knowledge of International Code Council codes, National Electric code and general construction codes.
ABILITY TO:
- Work well with the public and with local contractors
- Instruct others
- Read and understand complicated plans, schematic drawings, layouts, blueprints and other visual aids
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to comprehend and make inferences from written material

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed mostly in field settings, in a variety of weather conditions, with exposure to the elements is required in the inspection of various land use developments and construction sites. Eye-hand coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls with hands and arms; lift arms above shoulder level; work in small cramped areas; work at heights greater than 10 feet; and walk over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, perceive the full range of color spectrum; peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions, or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate to loud in the field.
