Description
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, at regularly scheduled locations and time schedule. This position is required to adhere to all school safety rules and traffic regulations. The Bus Driver may also transport students, staff, and others to special events, such as field trips and athletic matches, as needed.
The Bus Driver is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment while transporting passengers on the bus, which include performing daily bus inspections and reporting malfunctions and needed repairs. This is a part-time benefits eligible position reporting to the Transportation Supervisor. This position is classified as essential personnel and expected to assist with the shared facilities responsibilities such as snow removal, parking detail, etc.
Duties & Qualifications
Essential Functions:
- Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following time schedules
- Follow safety rules as students board and exit buses or cross streets near bus stops
- Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
- Report delinquent student behaviors to school administration
- Keep bus interiors clean for passengers
- Report any bus malfunctions or needed repair to the Transportation Supervisor and Mechanic
- Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situation to the Transportation Supervisor and/or School Administration as appropriate
- Transport students, staff, and chaperones on field trips, athletic activities, and other special trips, as needed
- Enforce school policy and procedures and maintain discipline on the bus
- Perform daily bus inspections, complete a daily vehicle condition report, and prepare daily reports of mileage, time and student attendance
- Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures and the ability to evacuate passengers from the bus in an emergency situation
Other Duties:
- Attend weekly Bus Driver team meetings
- Interior and exterior cleaning of the buses
- Provided training to new bus drivers, as needed
- The ability to lift to 25 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations
- Additional duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
Required Education and Experience:
- Valid Class B CDL Drivers license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
- Current Medical Examiners Certificate
- Driving record with no more than one point.
- Ability to become and maintain CPR and basic First Aid certification
- Implement assertive discipline behavior as needed.
- Effectively work with students, parents and school personnel.
- Maintain effective time management skills.
- Have the ability to read maps, follow routes, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Additional Employment Notes:
This position is classified as Essential Personnel and must be accessible and available to work during emergencies or for unforeseen events, including but not limited to snow storms, power outages, storm damage, etc.
