This position in the Recording Department of the Register of Deeds.
Purpose of the position :
The purpose of this position is to performspecialized administrative support / customer service in the filing, indexing, recording, and maintainingof legal documents for the Register of Deeds.
- Minimum Education, Training and / or Experience(required at time of hire) : Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, accounting, or related field;
- or an associate degree in related field and two (2) years of experience in an office setting requiring forward facing customer service duties;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Functions of the position :
Receive deeds, deeds of trust, powers of attorney, assumed business name certificates, plats and other papers; collect recording fees and issue receipts.
Index various real estate documents which include deeds, deeds of trust, powers of attorney, assumed business name certificate, plats, plans and other papers.
Receive, scan, file, locate, copy, and certify birth, death, and marriage records and submit amendments to these records to the Bureau of Vital Statistics.
Scan, file, locate, copy, and issue certified copies of real estate documents recorded with the office.
Issue birth and death certificates and accept applications for delayed birth certificates.
Issue marriage licenses.
Collect proper fees for documents processed.
Maintain integrity of historical public record as mandated by North Carolina General Statute.
A wide range of clerical duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
Ability to detect inaccuracies in various legal instruments submitted for processing.
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Knowledge of modern office practices, computer skills, equipment, and standard clerical techniques.
Knowledge of the functions and procedures of the Register of Deeds Office.
Knowledge of the laws relating to matters under the jurisdiction of the Register of Deeds.
Knowledge of the nature and content of a variety of documents processed in the Register of Deeds Office.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and deal tactfully with a wide range of the public while enforcing laws and regulations of the North Carolina General Statues.
Ability to type accurately at an average rate of speed
