General Accounting Clerk

John Tillman Company, a division of Bunzl, is seeking a General Accounting Clerk for our office in Compton. The General Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the Accounting Department in general payables, receivables, customer billing and payment application, data entry, and special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Assist and ensure accurate and timely payment processing from customers
• Accounts receivable cash application – ACH, lockbox, wires and credit card
• Support Accounts Payable by entering expense invoices, gathering back-up for P-Card reconciliations, and retrieving portal invoices
• Provide documentation to support customer inquiries, including researching invoices and proofs of delivery, emailing customer statements and other documentation
• Cross train to back up Accounting and Finance team

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong data entry skills required
• ERP knowledge preferred, currently on Sage X3
• Microsoft Excel experience is a plus
• Accounting knowledge is a plus
• Must have an excellent eye for detail; must have the ability to spot issues quickly and be able to resolve in a timely manner
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, colleagues, customers, and vendors
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to problem solve, multi-task projects, establish priorities, and organize effectively
• Must be self-motivated, able to follow direction, and able to work independently or as part of a team
