Duties

Duties

This position will perform under the general supervision of the Supervisory Irrigation Maintenance Specialist; and will be responsible for the fieldwork involved with Irrigation activities that may include construction practices, irrigation diversion and conveyance systems. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates various machines and tools including cement mixers, jack hammers, hand tools, power tools, air compressors, propane burners, chain saws, compactors, and portable pumps.
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of irrigation structures and equipment. Able to perform daily maintenance and adjustments as needed.
  • Schedules and reports use of material and equipment utilized on each job.
  • Assists in cleaning canals and laterals including trash removal, weed burning, fire control, and mechanical ditching.

This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks; the first cut-off date for applications is 10 business days from the opening date and every two weeks thereafter. Applicants with 10-point Veterans' Preference who submit a complete application after each two week cut-off date, but before the List of Eligible(s) is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified.   • Must possess and maintain a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or better.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  • Knowledge of materials
  • Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, specifications, etc.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and operate and maintain equipment and use of measuring instruments.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is moderate to heavy and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders, stilts or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.

Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (exposure to temperature extremes). Tools, equipment, and heavy objects involved present chances of serious injury. Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sub glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
