Job Purpose:    The ideal candidate shall provide support to the product team and the quality/operations teams as part of the on-site leadership team while “getting into the weeds” on issues to guide the organization to becoming a world class manufacturer.   This position will be an active participant in process improvement projects and project management. This position will ensure the machines operate at optimum efficiency with minimal downtime and ensure operators have the tools necessary to complete their work. This position is also intended to champion production improvement projects to improve flow, throughput, and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects throughout Burlington Medical’s attenuating material production processes.     This includes projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and increase capacity.
  • Responsible for machine reliability, including preventative and break-fix maintenance.
  • Implement process changes and improvements to improve production flow and alleviate potential bottlenecks and downtime.
  • Identification of defects, associated root cause analysis, corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with maintenance contractors to ensure production equipment is operational and regularly maintained. Maintain preventative maintenance records for all production equipment.
  • Manage tooling and provision of equipment needed to complete daily production tasks.
  • Assist the team in the determination of priorities for daily work in process (WIP) through analysis of reports and input from cross-functional teams.
  • Support daily production activities and provide troubleshooting support where needed.
  • Assist with alignment of and set priorities for resources and shared resources across factory to maximize efficiency to ensure customer ship schedules on time.
  • Acts as project manager for all assigned projects
  • Utilizing business volume forecasts and production output metrics, assist in development of future headcount requirements to ensure capacity levels are maintained at appropriate levels.
  • Accumulate daily parts/material information to analyze and establish dates to meet and exceed customer delivery requirements.
  • Develop, update, and maintain Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop, create, and revise Bill of Materials and Routings to ensure accurate costs are captured on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams including Customer Service, Quality, Operations and Purchasing.
  • Participate in business processes improvement events, such as kaizens, to improve processes and reduce waste.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures and techniques which will improve the scheduling function.
  • Actively participate in process improvement and creation/adherence to standard work.
  • Develop, configure, and optimize processes from inception through startup and certification/validation.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Travel up to 25% domestic.  Occasional international travel may be required.

Required

  • Ability to use data to build capacity and other models.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel internally and externally.
  • Strong analysis, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Must have significant presence on production floor.  Expectation of an average of 50% time spent on factory floor.

 

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Greater than 3 years of Product Development Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Quality Engineering.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer
  • Prolonged standing on a concrete floor
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at a time
