The Burrillville School Department is seeking candidates certified as Speech/Language Pathologists. The position is a district position. TOWN OF BURRILLVILLE Burrillville School Department Position Description Title: Speech and Language Pathologist Supervisor: Building Principal/PPS Director Department: School Department GENERAL PURPOSE: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school-based speech and language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, cognitive-communication, swallowing, social language, auditory/language processing, aural rehabilitation, voice, and fluency. These services are designed to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally while considering Rhode Island Regulations and the vision of the Burrillville School Department. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As guided by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), speech and language pathologists (SLP) possess the knowledge and skills to provide a broad range of services to students, families, and schools, including: 1.Provide appropriate speech and language services to all levels (PK-high school) using evidence-based intervention strategies and adapting instruction to meet the needs of all students. 2.Ability to work with students exhibiting the full range of communication disorders, including articulation, receptive/expressive language, social language and communication, fluency, voice/resonance and swallowing. 3.Monitor student progress through appropriate data collection and maintain accurate records. Adjust treatment goals/service delivery based on results of ongoing progress monitoring. 4.Work collaboratively with colleagues, students, families and other professionals to promote effective implementation of services. 5.Ability to determine the educational impact of a student’s disorder, taking into account personal, social/emotional, academic and vocational needs. 6.Administer a variety of assessments, share findings with key stakeholders and interpret assessment data in order to identify communication difficulties that impact student educational performance. 7.Actively participate in team meetings in order to provide recommendations for addressing communication difficulties. 8.Conduct individualized evaluations and develop and implement individual educational goals to meet the unique needs of each student with a disability impacting their education. 9.Design therapy activities that accommodate the differences of individuals. 10.Serve as case manager for students under the age of 9 who qualify for special education services under the category of speech or language impaired. 11.Adhere to special education policies/procedures and complete relevant paperwork 12.Serve as a resource to building-level staff and administrators regarding the communication needs of students; provide staff and parent training about communication disorders for carryover as appropriate. 13.Practice in accordance with ethical, legal, and professional standards. 14.Demonstrate the ability to assume all other responsibilities as might be assigned by the Building Principal/PPS Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Speech and Language Pathologist Certificate from Rhode Island Department of Education. 2.Conceptual, interpersonal, and social skills necessary for position performance. 3.Demonstrated commitment to the implementation of high standards for all students. 4.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff. 5.Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with parents in the support of students. 6.Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development to ensure that knowledge and skills remain current.
