POSITION: Audiologist - Part Time

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Audiologist's primary responsibilities are to identify, assess, and provide hearing services to eligible children, including determination of range, nature, and degree of

hearing loss as well as referral for medical or other professional attention for the habilitation of hearing. The Audiologist should determine students' needs for hearing assistive technology. Audiologists should select and fit appropriate hearing technology and evaluate the effectiveness considering the impact on education. The Audiologist should administer programs to both prevent further hearing loss, as well as counsel children, parents and teachers regarding hearing loss.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or Aud.D.
  • Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology License.
  • Willingness/ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities.
  • Computer expertise.
  • Valid driver's license and access to personal vehicle.
  • History of good job attendance.
  • Must pass criminal background check, and be free from communicable disease
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Identify children ages three to twenty-one years of age with a suspected hearing loss.

· Determine the range, nature, and degree of hearing loss using calibrated equipment.

· Serve as a resource to qualified school personnel for provision of evidence-based habilitation services.

· Participate in the development and implementation of ETRs, IEPs, and 504 plans for students with hearing loss, including assessment results, goals, objectives, accommodations, and modifications for both curricula and classroom environment.

· Select and fit hearing assistive technology.

· Serve as a resource to school personnel and students regarding the effective use of hearing assistive technology.

· Provide counseling and guidance to students, teachers and parents as to the impact of hearing loss, how it impacts education, speech and language, and social emotional development as well as how this impacts daily living skills and ability to function in students' environment.

· To comply with state and federal regulations that pertain to the position (IDEA, ODE, Ohio Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, OCR).

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

· Provide assessment information to the referral source and evaluation team in the district.

· Participate in evaluation team meetings regarding students with hearing needs.

· Consultation regarding strategies to positively impact communication for students with hearing needs.

· Participate in the development and implementation of 504 plans for access to instruction when indicated.

· Provide assessment of classroom acoustic conditions. Consult regarding sound treatment options to enhance students' access to instruction.

· To provide counseling as to the benefits and limitations of hearing assistive technology, as well as use and maintenance of this technology.

· To provide counseling pertaining to transition planning for high school students.

· To coordinate calibration of audiological equipment.

· To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

· To help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting.

· Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data; schedule; and lift moderate amounts of weight. Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment.

· Basic math, English and communications.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Audiologists’ equipment, hearing assistive, technology, copy machine and telephone.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

: Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during gross motor play. Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue and unruly children/adults.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board.The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

STARTING DATE: August 2024

SALARY: Based upon the approved salary schedule, education and experience
