What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Surgical Tech position at Butler Health System?
Job Summary:
Responsible for the delivery of skilled care before, during, and after the surgical procedure under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of the patient, equipment and work area using approved standards of surgical aseptic technique. Responsible to coordinate, plan for, and execute any special needs and additional equipment to peers, both surgical technologist and RN’s with relation to the service line. Overseeing specialized equipment for authenticity and function. Communicating needs for both staffing and equipment to the proper channels to optimize function during surgical cases.
Education
Minimum:
Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program OR Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the U.S. Army, Navy, or Air Force

Registration/Certification/Licensure:
Healthcare Provider CPR
If hired or transferred after 12/28/2020: Must hold a current Surgical Technologist Certification or were employed to practice as a surgical technologist as the individual’s primary function in another health care facility at any time during the two year’s immediately preceding the effective date of 12/28/20.

Other Requirements:
Responsible to safely access, transport, and handle single dose medications to include prescription and non-prescription medications. Responsible to safely access, transport, and handle sharps, such as needles, suture kits, lancets, syringes, etc. If certified, shall comply with the continuing education requirements specified by the credentialing organization to keep the certification current. If not certified, shall complete 30 hours of relevant continuing education every two years in order to remain eligible to practice surgical technology.
