What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pathology Lab Tech position at Butterball?
This position is responsible for performing various tests including bacterial and viral cultures, and antibiotic sensitivity testing. This position will also enter data and run laboratory reports.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
• Sample preparation for bacterial and viral cultures
• Plate bacterial cultures on appropriate media
• Perform antibiotic sensitivity testing
• Prepare media (BHI Broth, Semen Extender, Plated and Tubed Bacterial)
• Computer entry of data and laboratory results
• Generate laboratory reports
• Perform necropsies and fecal examinations
• Other laboratory duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Sterile Technique
• Ability to learn laboratory procedures
• Operation of laboratory equipment
• Data collection techniques and terminology
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Education and Experience
Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Poultry Science, Animal Science or related degree program or related work experience.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements Physical Demands
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods
• Light to moderate cleaning is required
Work Environment
• Casual environment requiring comfortable attire for working with animals.
