Summary
Butterscotch Auction Gallery is Westchester’s oldest established auction house. Specializing in fine art and jewelry, Butterscotch has developed a reputation for great serviceability and high-quality merchandise among consignors and buyers alike. Butterscotch is seeking a self-motivated professional to support the auction gallery and office. This position will help with regular administrative tasks, special projects, and the production of auction catalogs.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with answering phone calls and managing email correspondence
Create ad and marketing materials
Customer management, including:
Bidder registration and inquiries;
Payment processing;
Pickup scheduling.
Perform data entry of client and inventory information
Support file / photo management
Assist with cataloging and tagging inventory
Help with other office and auction processes as needed
Required Qualifications
1-2 years of professional work experience
Effective verbal and written communication
Motivation and ability to learn
Proficient with Windows computers and file management
Comfortable with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Skills in Adobe inDesign and Photoshop
Ability to quickly learn new software
Overall strong computer and typing skills
High attention to detail
Good organizational skills
Maintains professionalism with clients
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Takes initiative and works efficiently
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Follows instructions and asks questions
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree or higher
Experience working in an office environment
Customer service experience
Interest in art and art objects
Bonus Skills
Familiar with basic art terms
Research experience
Squarespace
Adobe Lightroom
Experience with Auction Flex, Live Auctioneers, Invaluable or other auction software / web services
Experience in the arts / auction industry is not required. Industry-specific training will be provided.
Schedule
Monday – Friday from 10:00AM – 5:00PM
One full weekend during Auction Weeks (typically three times a year)
