BWXT is currently seeking an Operational Excellence Black Belt for its Barberton, OH location.
Black Belts lead process improvement teams using LSS principles, methodologies, and tools to achieve strategic improvement objectives. Black Belts engage team members to draw together experience, process knowledge, and validate the quality of data. They interpret data and conduct experiments to identify and validate improvements. Moreover, they represent their team to management, report progress as required, and recommend the team’s course of action as justified by data. Black Belts also validate improvement metrics and define appropriate process controls to maintain benefits. Black Belts also share knowledge and lessons learned to promote a culture of continuous improvement
Job Description/Duties:
- Develop expertise in LSS principles, methodologies, and tools.
- Execute projects that result in measurable results in the areas of quality, cost, and schedule.
- Accountable to project Champion for team’s progress.
- Build and maintain relationships with managers and supervisors to educate them in LSS.
- Facilitate team meetings and tasks efficiently, promoting valued input from members.
- Report progress periodically to management.
- Work with Champion to identify and remove obstacles facing the team, procuring needed resources and/or providing guidance required for progress.
- Recommend improvements and justify activities with data analysis.
- Coach Black Belt candidates, Yellow Belts, and/or other team members, as appropriate.
- Assist Champions in developing business cases, as needed.
- Promote teamwork across functional areas and within the organization.
- Promote team ownership of project and resulting improvements.
- Ensure team’s successes are publicly acknowledged and positively reinforced.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred but not required. Technical degree (e.g., engineering, physics, mathematics) is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of two years of related work experience required. Minimum of two years of work experience with BWXT and, or, nuclear industry is preferred.
- Must have demonstrated leadership potential and strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be a self-starter willing to take responsibility for finding solutions.
- Must have strong and demonstrable problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Must possess excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively impact and influence both directly and indirectly.
- Must have demonstrated ability to recommend and implement improvements.
- Must possess the ability to lead a team in ambiguous and challenging situations.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
