General Description:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for completing assigned duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Maintenance Manager does this by ensuring that all grounds, buildings, and equipment are properly maintained in the timeliest and most cost-efficient manner. The Maintenance Manager is also responsible for maintaining and repairing the facility, production equipment, and support systems required to run production. The Maintenance Manager completes these functions in support of the manufacture of dairy-related products.
Job Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate activities of maintenance personnel. Responsible for the development of direct reports to ensure that they are appropriately prepared to assume higher-level positions or are better able to perform in their current roles.
- Monitor the status of all in-progress repairs and keep technicians focused until the job is complete. Guide direct reports when making machine repairs and adjustments.
- Responsible for ensuring maintenance repairs and troubleshooting of all food processing and packaging equipment are performed properly. This will require competency in both electrical and mechanical equipment repairs and problem diagnoses.
- Responsible for the creation and delivery of all key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives for the Maintenance unit. Ensure maintenance is following its strategic plan and makes the necessary adjustments to keep on the right track.
- Develop strategic partnerships with the manufacturing and EHS areas to ensure that their organizations are aligned with reliability/maintenance/project engineering.
- Regularly, meet with the manufacturing department to review equipment maintenance issues with the overall goal of maintaining efficiency per objectives which is in line with the strategic long-range plan objectives. Keep abreast of new technologies and provide a vision for technical improvement across the plant.
- Monitor the operation of essential equipment. Responsible for maintaining key equipment parts inventory, managing the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, managing the Work Order system, and managing the overall day-to-day activities of the Maintenance unit.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve all standard operating procedures as they relate to our maintenance programs (predictive and preventative) to meet all company and customer requirements.
- Control the ongoing repair and period maintenance budgets in line with the fiscal plan. Implement cost reductions to offset negative or unplanned variance to the fiscal plan while achieving proposed efficiency objectives.
- Budget, direct, manage, and control all repair expense and capital expense projects ensuring all schedules and budgets are met.
- Plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials; Steward continual improvement in reliability processes to ensure a strategic focus.
- Establish procedures/policies to ensure the smooth and professional operation of the department.
- Interview and hire qualified maintenance applicants.
- Evaluate job performance and work with direct reports to set and achieve goals. Establish a climate of individual accountability.
- Review and analyze processes and procedures for waste and inefficiency. Make recommendations and/or implement solutions.
- Develop and train maintenance technicians to possess superior knowledge of all equipment and systems.
- Coordinate outside contractors for scheduled maintenance and/or emergency maintenance of facility and support systems.
- Be available to report to the facility at unscheduled times as well as to provide support over the phone during non-working hours.
- Promote and provide excellent customer service for all customers.
- Utilize a continuous improvement mindset; assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area. Follow all sanitation and quality policies and procedures, learn, and adhere to safety and quality policies and procedures, and report any deficiencies.
- Required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the Company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Foster an “open door” policy for all employees to maintain an open line of communication between direct reports and management staff.
- Promote a safe and harmonious work environment and adherence to company policy and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring direct reports assigned duties and responsibilities are covered during planned and unplanned absences from work, including acting as a backup as necessary.
- Maintain full understanding and compliance with S.Q.F. 2000 – Level 3, workplace safety, Good Manufacturing Processes, and 5S compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
- Minimum of a BA/BS in industrial/manufacturing, engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of supervisory experience; ESL/aseptic/fluid milk and/or food manufacturing background is a plus.
- 3 years’ experience with production line equipment and operations.
- 3 years’ experience with boilers, ammonia refrigeration, air compressors, HVAC, sprinkler systems, and electrical systems.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers, instruments, and controls.
- Technical training or electrical/mechanical technician degree.
Performance Standards:
- Responsible for reporting to work at scheduled times and communicating tardiness and absences with the assigned Supervisor/Manager before the occurrence.
- Responsible for reporting to work in a condition to work.
- Responsible for being well-groomed and always dressed in business and position-appropriate attire including ensuring compliance with GMP dress code standards.
- Comply with performance criteria, and standards of conduct as contained in company policy, employment procedures, and responsibilities as described in the company handbook.
- Always maintain a safe work environment and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct a safety concern.
- Responsible for completing all assigned tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
- Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on assigned shifts.
- Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor/Manager.
- Salary: Generally scheduled for 40 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.
Environmental Concerns:
- Normally protected from weather and temperature changes, possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid, or windy weather conditions does exist.
- May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens.
- May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
- Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Byrne, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $107,000.00 to $138,000.00.
