Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will join the Technology leadership team at Columbia Power Technologies, Inc. (C-Power). This role will establish and maintain engineering best practices, procedures, and policies for the Mechanical Engineering Team. They are responsible to provide leadership, technical guidance, and establish workflows of direct reports. They provide input to the creation and maintenance of budgets, work together with product and project managers on technical scope and schedules. This is a working leadership role that requires the incumbent to design mechanical systems and structures as well as perform FEA and fatigue analysis. The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead reports to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops and documents Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for area of expertise and in conjunction with other Team Leads
- Communicates SOPs and other process/procedural information with team members and assure that SOPs are followed
- Establishes the workflow of team members, sets design standards in accordance with best practices, and holds team accountable for quality completion of assigned work
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Hands-on mechanical design that meets system and DFMA requirements
- Guidance and review of mechanical design for all team members
- Ensures reliable operation of equipment through engineering analysis, testing, and establishment of maintenance requirements
- Establish and maintain a Product Data Management (PDM) system
- Work hands on with the team as required and prioritize their development and growth
- Ownership of product Bill of Materials (BOM) and associated engineering change management
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Leadership skills through proven ability to work and effectively manage a team in a hybrid work environment
- High level understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Attention to detail when it comes to models, drawings, and BOMs
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks building mechanical systems and structures
- Ability to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Ability to perform Fatigue Analysis
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed, 10% - 50% of time
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters preferred
- 5 years of experience
- Experience designing mechanical systems including gearboxes, couplers, electric machines, and machined parts
- FEA and Fatigue analysis experience
- Experience using MATLAB is a plus
- Experience with Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering is preferred
