POSITION DESCRIPTION: MACHINE OPERATOR
Education, Experience, Skills Required
High school diploma or equivalent GED. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Two (2) years of trade school in the mechanical or machinist field and/or two (2) years experience in production or machinery assembly. Highly skilled in precision measuring tools. Strong applied mathematical skills. Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings. Minimum two (2) years experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC). Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
Essential Task/Function
· Measure and examine extruded products to locate defects and to check for conformance to specifications, adjusting controls as necessary to alter products.
· Determine setup procedures and select machine dies and parts, according to specifications.
· Install dies, machine screws, and sizing rings on machines that extrude thermoplastic or metal materials.
· Change dies on extruding machines according to production line changes.
· Start machines and set controls to regulate vacuum, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature, and to synchronize speed of extrusion.
· Replace worn dies when products vary from specifications.
· Reel extruded products into rolls of specified lengths and weights.
· Adjust controls to draw or press metal into specified shapes and diameters.
· Operate forklifts to move and stage material.
· Ability to listen and follow directions.

Machinery, Tools, Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment:
Operates presses, swagers, extruders, lathes, rotaries, stranders, winders, coilers, wrap lines, induction ovens, degreasers, and polishers. Uses hand tools and measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring devices. While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. High noise level.
Safety equipment provided by Cablecraft: mandatory hearing protection; as needed face shield, safety glasses (non-prescription) meeting ANSI standard Z87.1-1989, clear goggles, welding goggles, gloves, and uniforms. Required employee-provided safety items: safety shoes or boots.
