CMC Materials is looking for a strong leader to fill the critical role of Operations Manager in their Hollister, CA Chemical Plant. The successful candidate would lead all aspects of the production activities while encouraging a strong focus on safety and smooth running operations. The Operations Manager will facilitate communication between various supporting departments, be a part of continuous improvement projects such as assisting in the development of a robust employee training matrix; and be accountable for the facility's ability to meet business strategy metrics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads Production staff; interviews, evaluates, hires, coaches, and creates development plans for direct reports and helps them with goal setting/coordinates performance reviews.

• Participates as a key member of the plant safety committee; plays leadership role in facility safety related initiatives.

• Oversees employee training. Ensures operators follow procedures and safety rules; verifies operations training meets company and location needs and standards.

• Interfaces with customer service and logistics on scheduling, expediting and planning product movements. Responds to customer complaints and works toward resolution.

• Effectively manages production activities in concert with the planning, scheduling and supply chain organizations to meet customers’ quality and production demands.

• Drives continuous improvement throughout manufacturing processes.

• Reports incidents using quality software programs; investigates and implements corrective actions

• Tracks and reports statistical information for all operations at facility; produces monthly operations reports

• Proposes and implements revisions to procedures; develops new workflow processes; selects and audits work instructions for completeness

• Works closely with Plant Manager to establish expense and capital budgets; drives cost control to meet or exceed targets

• Acts as final stop for any operations issues at the facility before they are advanced to the Plant Manager

• Assists Plant Manager in resolving present and future needs for programs, personnel, equipment, and facility

• Functions as Plant Manager in his or her absence

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical field preferred

Desired Experience

• 7 years’ experience working in chemical plant operations environment; 3 years supervisory experience

• Experience in leading effective safety programs in a manufacturing setting

• Tried and true team leader; ability to improve employee and customer happiness; knowledge of continuous improvement in plant processes

• Experience with specialty chemicals and/or batch processing preferred

• Customer service focus - diplomatic communications skills/problem solver

• Familiar with environmental and governmental agency regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other safety, health and regulatory groups

• Emergency response experience; response and incident command system knowledge

• Budget savvy individual

• Good digital literacy, including ability to easily use MS Office suite; various email, internet, intranet, and other programs

• Excellent English communications skills, oral and written; ability to optimally handle social as well as business interactions with all levels of customers and team members.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• Forklift certification a plus!
