Cache County is looking for an Animal Shelter Director to join our Sheriff's office.

The Animal Shelter Director will manage, supervise, organize, and coordinate animal control shelter activities that provide a full range of animal control services related to animals' impounding, treatment, and disposal. The Director will work under the general guidance of Sheriffs Administration and provide direct supervision to technical and administrative support staff.

The Director's duties include, but are not limited to, managing the animal and adoption shelter, shelter operations, purchasing all supplies and equipment, oversee the maintenance of the shelter, grounds, and equipment. The Director will participate in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for Impound facility staff. This position will assist animal control officers in evaluating impounded and/or forfeited animals to determine adoptability, veterinary needs, and sociable or aggressive behavior, monitor all bite cases, and ensure procedures are followed with the State Health Department for testing suspected rabies specimens. When needed, the position directs and is responsible for the euthanasia of animals in the shelter. The Director will promote a high level of customer service and good public relations through various activities, including educating the public on pet adoption, animal control ordinances, and other programs and assisting in the redemption, adoption, and location of lost pets.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, demonstrated familiarity with the care and treatment of animals, and three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an Animal Control Officer, of which one year must have been supervisory or administration. Candidates must also have a valid Utah Driver License, meet eligibility requirements to operate county vehicles and have or be able to obtain the following certificates within one year of employment: Euthanasia, Chemical Immobilization, CPR, and First Aid.
