Job Description:

CACI is looking for a Systems Engineer to work with the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have a strong interest in Robotics, Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I), and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

What You’ll Get to Do:
This work involves integration and testing of the ARGOS facility upgrade to prepare for NASA’s return to the Moon. ARGOS provides a reduced gravity environment used for engineering analysis, astronaut trials, and training for space operations in microgravity or lower gravity on a planetary surface. A payload such as an astronaut or robot is strapped into the ARGOS gimbal so that the system removes the effects of Earth’s gravity. This will support NASA’s deep-space exploration initiative and the return to the moon and on to Mars. The engineer will support ARGOS system upgrades including offloader assemblies, document integration efforts and tests, project design reviews, verification and validation (V&V), provide inputs for operational test procedures and certification for operations, and the Systems Engineer Lead in all SE&I related matters.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

More About the Role:

 Job responsibilities include:

  • Refine the Systems Requirements Document (SRD).
  • Identify requirements deviations, requests, and document waivers.
  • Grow to represent the SE&I team to internal and external partners.
  • Support the V&V lead by providing updates to the V&V testing matrix , success criteria and by supporting V&V activities.
  • Participate in the Integration and testing of ARGOS subsystems as the system matures while working with other leads according to the project testing procedures.
  • Refine onboarding procedures and streamline the process for project level access.
  • Support the characterization of close calls and mishaps as well as investigation efforts for incidents that involve ARGOS.
  • Grow to understand team tasks and propose new procedures or tools.
  • Provide support to the SE&I lead for the prioritization of tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Support the project during upcoming Design Reviews.
  • Support the team in the development of the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for the system.
  • Become the point of contact for updates to the project tracking tool for completed assemblies and updates to the project’s documentation portal.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG Facilities.
  • B.S. in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines required plus relevant experience in full-time systems engineering.
  • Experience in all phases of the design process (including concept development, requirements definition, prototyping, design, analysis, and validation).
  • Experience with systems engineering, requirements verification and validation.
  • Experience understanding industry standards and their applicability to ARGOS.
  • Have a basic understanding of FMEA and Hazard Analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Have demonstrated ability to interact with different stakeholders and ensure that standards, procedures, and protocols are being followed.
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • M.S. in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with the NASA Systems Engineering Design Process and design review criteria.
  • Background working with NASA systems engineering processes.
  • 3 years of Experience with the Project Management and Design cycle processes, e.g., PDR, CDR, SAR.
