Summary

The Software Development Lead delivers software solutions in-line with customer expectations. Their interaction with development teams is to influence proper feature design allowing for smooth deployment on projects. The position also entails providing early exposure to new technology developed within the development teams and allowing their evaluation from a project execution perspective. This individual also provides the Agile leadership and ensures coordination with project management team to facilitate project execution.

Supports all groups in all phases of design and software development with minimal supervision. Must have proven technical capabilities, a strong Software Engineering background, and a working knowledge of simulation software techniques. Participate in the development of work plans and schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures all software groups are following the company’s software development policies and procedures.
• Coordinates with Scrum Masters to ensure proper execution of company Agile methodologies.
• Works with scrum masters to elevate and remove major impediments obscuring a team’s pursuit of sprint goals.
• Works closely with the development team to influence features designed to improve deployment on projects.
• Responsible for facilitating team communication regarding team issues.
• Coordinates directly with other teams, departments and other external entities.
• Coordinates metric reporting from Scrum Masters to management.
• Compares progress with respect to work plans and communicate the state of progress.
• Plays an active role in the continuous improvement initiatives.
• Receives technical and administrative directions from the Software Engineering Manager.
• Lead a team of software engineers to deliver solutions that meet customer expectations.
• Provide software development guidance to junior team members

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelors’ degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics
• Must possess a minimum of 8 years work experience with at least 5 years’ experience in the simulation or related industry.
• Ability to lead a team of over 10 software developers.
• Good planning and organizational skills.
• Strong leadership and excellent communication skills
• Ability to manage priorities over different deliverables
• Familiar with software development and integration, software lifecycle and configuration management tools.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
• Ability to design, code, and test, software pertaining to flight simulation.
• Related skill areas should include writing and presentation skills.
• Current security clearance is a plus.
• Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

• Experience working DoD programs
• SAFe certified

Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

• Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an environment where irritants such as noise from telephones, temperature, and lighting variations may exist, but there is little chance of injury, accident, or occupational health problems.

• Works at job activities that require sitting, standing or walking for short periods throughout the day and focused visual concentration or focused listening
• Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected with this position. Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely to be encountered.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Must be able to perform normal office duties (sitting for long periods at a desk and in technical meetings)
• Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS via car and airplane
• Must be able to travel via car and airplane
• Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
