Salary Range: $17.00 - $22.00/Hourly

Organization Description: The Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at Cal State LA is a nonpartisan,
presidentially chartered institute dedicated to the quest for social justice and equality of opportunity,
enlightened civic engagement, and an enhanced quality of life for all Californians. Former California
Governor Pat Brown brought the Institute to Cal State LA in 1987. Today, the Institute seeks to sustain the
vision and legacy of Governor Brown by promoting civic and community engagement; helping to advance
an inclusive public policy; connecting with and energizing the Next Generation; and serving as a thought
leader on vital issues for the region and the state. Its current programs include: Southeast Los Angeles
(SELA) Initiative, Civic U, polling, candidate debates, and community-based research.
Job Description: Under the direction of the Executive and Associate Director of the Pat Brown Institute,
the incumbent is responsible for providing varying levels of general office, records management,
appointment coordination, assist with record keeping and data gathering. Duties include but are not limited
to: Project coordination - the incumbent will assist with the planning and implementation of programs and
services of the Institute. Clerical/Administrative - copying/scanning, completing and routing forms,
organizing files, sending emails, answering office phone and taking messages, answering non-routine
correspondence, assisting with financial record keeping and payroll, scheduling and coordinating meetings
and conference calls, obtaining supplies, coordinating direct mailings, working on special projects, and
performing other similar administrative duties. Incumbent will interact with a diverse group of external
parties, including callers visitors, elected officials, agency executives and managers, program partners, as
well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. The incumbent will assist the Institute with its
coordination of meetings and activities involving critic leaders, and representatives of public agencies and
institutions.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree or in progress in one of the following: political science, public
administration, social work, business administration or related field. The incumbent must have two years of
experience in general administration. The incumbent must be a team player; having computer skills; and
excellent organizational skills, written and oral communicative skills. The incumbent must be creative,
enthusiastic, outgoing, reliable, and cooperative; able to take initiative and learn new skills and concepts;
able to commute to assigned locations in the community as needed; able to work with potentially sensitive
and confidential materials; and able to work well with coworkers, community representatives, and
stakeholders.
Desired qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience working with Wordpress and
managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic
environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily
before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the
background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current
UAS employees who apply for the position.
