Position Summary 

We are looking for exceptional Middle School Science educators to join our team working towards achieving educational equity by shifting the experiences, expectations and outcomes for students in historically underserved communities. Our strengths-based educational program validates, affirms, respects and supports students, families and staff members to reach their full potential.  You will collaborate with colleagues to drive the achievement of all students at Caliber. You will use data to drive your instruction, regularly assessing student learning to ensure that each child’s personalized learning plan addresses their unique needs and goals for growth. You will equitably support the development of each child through restorative practices and social-emotional learning strategies. Weekly training and support through high-quality professional development and tailored one-on-one coaching will be available. 

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about interacting and building relationships with families because you believe families are partners, and play a critical role in student success.  You will take an active role in shaping the school’s growth, policies and educational practices. It is important that you have knowledge of the California State Common Core Standards, and possess a strong ability to design and implement culturally rich, engaging, and culturally relevant teaching lessons to motivated students to learn more. You will evaluate and record students’ academic progress and social growth on a continual basis, including completing progress reports and report cards. Adjusts teaching based on these results.

This role reports to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal or Instructional Coach. You will be required to be on campus for in-person instruction during the 22-23 school year.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create safe spaces for all BIPOC students, staff, families and community members
  • Demonstrate deep commitment to antiracist education and serve as a model and advocate for students, families and staff
  • Facilitate students’ mastery of academic standards through long-term planning, daily and weekly lesson plans, and execution of rigorous and engaging daily instruction.
  • Internalize and implement Caliber’s chosen curricula, modifying as necessary for your students and content
  • Facilitate a Blended Learning Model using technology tools as part of instruction.
  • Develop expertise with technological tools that drive student learning.
  • Facilitate small group instruction with students working towards targeted outcomes.
  • Design and use assessment data to refine instructional practices and personalize learning for each student. 
  • Consistently integrate coaching feedback.
  • Implement and support school-wide social-emotional programming and restorative practices. 
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Approach professional development with commitment and reflection.
  • Fulfill other professional obligations as needed with enthusiasm, commitment, and flexibility.
  • Approach students and navigate student relationships with a trauma-informed lens and trauma informed practices

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of teaching experience, preferably in a high performing school driving excellent student outcomes.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations. 
  • Preferred experience with social-emotional learning and restorative practices.
  • Experience integrating technology into the classroom.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Valid California State Teaching Credential or equivalent and transferable teaching license from another state (Required)
    • Intern credential accepted

Other Qualifications: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (Required)
  • Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code (Required)
  • CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school

Physical Demands:

  • Onsite classroom format; subject to frequent interruptions; subject to change as COVID-19 emergency continues;
  • Daily routine ability to exchange information via hearing and speaking;
  • Skills, knowledge, mental ability, and manual dexterity to carry out the posted duties and responsibilities of the job, interpret and implement school policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position;
  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time to monitor student progress;
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels;
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others, including young children, may understand clearly;
  • Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by others;
  • Short term and long term memory ability is required in all tasks;
  • Situations may require lifting of up to 25 lbs. (light objects as part of classroom/office environment) 
  • Seeing to perform assigned duties with or without vision aids; ·  
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office machinery as necessary to perform the duties of the position;
  • Ability to bend, reach, walk, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
  • May be required to attend meetings or school events outside regular school hours. 
  • Reasonable and predictable attendance expected.

Work Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate. Work environment includes working directly with children. There are a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the employee must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that the children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. The employee must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time. 

Salary scales are based on verified years of experience and expertise. Scales are competitive with other charter school organizations and local districts.

Current teacher salary scales range from: $55,500-$82,000. This is subject to change based on factors not listed. 

Subject to service requirements and other conditions of participation, you will also be eligible to participate in Caliber Public Schools’ health and retirement plans. The terms and conditions of these and any future plans, programs, or policies will be defined exclusively in written plan documents and provided to you in a separate document. Caliber Public Schools may change any benefit plans, programs or policies at any time.
