POSITION TITLE: INTERN RESEARCH - Drug Discovery Biology
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Drug Discovery Biology group at Calibr-Skaggs, a division of Scripps Research to support the daily functions of the high throughput screening (HTS) team and biological assay optimization. Under general supervision, the candidate is expected to work both independently and in collaboration with other Discovery Biology and HTS team members and scientists.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and coordinate shipment to various collaborators and assist with record keeping
- Help prepare solutions and reagents, may include operating lab equipment and machinery
- Assist in performing various assays and laboratory experiments.
- Participate in group meetings and discussions.
- Other tasks may be assigned to support daily operations
- Ability to work productively with colleagues across Calibr
- Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be currently enrolled in high school, an associate’s program, a bachelors program or masters program
- Must be in a science or engineering major
- Require 12-20 hours per week block scheduling (please include class schedule) during school year
- Strong interest in technology and an aptitude for computers and devices a must.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills and task management
- Ability to provide high level of customer support and professionalism
- Familiar with manual pipetting techniques
COMPENSATION:
- The expected hiring range for this position is $16.30 to $19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position works in a laboratory that requires basic PPE (lab coat, gloves and safety glasses), standing or sitting for extended periods of time in front of a computer for data entry, performing tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.
