Department Summary

CSUSB's Department of Art & Design offers outstanding teaching in Art History, Design, Studio Art, and Visual Studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels. We have some of the best art and design making facilities in the CSU system of twenty-three campuses and a terrific team of faculty and staff from across the USA and across the world. We have specialist workshops and studios for painting, drawing, ceramics, glass making, sculpture, illustration, wood, and furniture design, as well as printmaking and photography, graphic design, 3D design, motion graphics, and UX/UI design - all augmented and invigorated by new digital electronic fabrication tools (such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, and an industrial CNC router). All of our students, faculty, and staff also benefit from our ever-growing Visual Resources Center and its new Innovative Materials Collection.

Job Summary

The part-time Instructional Support Technician will work under the direction of the Department Chair and provide support to the current, full-time technician.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Train faculty, staff, and students on all DEFT (Digital Electronic Fabrication Technologies) tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Monitor student use of all DEFT tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Maintain functioning of all DEFT tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Maintain all safety guidelines and practices for all DEFT tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Maintain and prepare purchase orders for parts and material supplies for all DEFT tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Planning and coordinating production with existing manual and mechanical workshop tools, equipment & machinery.
  • Planning, coordinating and helping to maintain materials collection in the VRC (samples of materials to be used in DEFT equipment & machinery, plus examples of materials' performance in DEFT equipment & machinery).
  • Other duties include providing support to the Senior Technician in other workshops in the VA Building, as needed.
  • Regular reporting to the Senior Technician and the Chair of Department.



Employment Status: Part-time, Temporary, "Non-exempt" position.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
  • Part-time, 20 hours per week, 10-month contract.

Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles of providing support services; knowledge of the common principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline
  • Knowledge of the materials, supplies and equipment and their uses related to the discipline.
  • Ability to evaluate the materials and supplies used.
  • Ability to learn to adjust and make minor repairs on scientific equipment.
  • Ability to operate scientific or highly technical equipment and to interpret results.
  • Ability to plan activities and prepare schedules.
  • Ability to use methods, techniques and skills related to the discipline in preparing specialized materials.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline.

OR
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

OR
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2,971 - $3,398 per month (Please note: Salary will be the amount due to PT work.)

Classification Salary Range: $2,971 - $ 5,156 per month
