Description

SUMMARY

 

The purpose of the Culture & Wellness Coordinator is to provide an opportunity for CTTP participants and members of partner tribes to be educated with new skills in the prevention of teen pregnancy and to reduce and prevent out-of-wedlock pregnancy. This position will provide opportunities for participants to develop skills, enhance knowledge and gain experience to become self-sufficient, while encouraging culture and wellness in the family.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Meet with Tribal partners, Tribal leaders, and qualified vendors to plan workshops and activities.
  • Provide and facilitate culturally relevant trainings to CTTP staff to ensure proper cultural sensitivity.
  • Model behavior in a manner that serves as an example of positive cultural values, attitudes, beliefs, and actions.
  • Schedule events to prevent overlapping and coordinate activities with Tribal sites, Tribal partners, and other programs.
  • Compile, sort, and distribute training documents to educate teens about the responsibilities of parenting, learning to build strong self-esteem, self-respect, etc.
  • Promote participant participation in culture, wellness and prevention workshops/ activities.
  • Verify and update workshop materials, presentations and information on a regular basis.
  • Assist with coordination, and preparation for culture and wellness workshops/activities.
  • Generate fliers for workshops/activities with date, place, time, etc.
  • Assist and coordinate with qualified individuals/vendors to ensure successful outcomes for all CTTP culture and wellness workshops/activities.
  • Evaluate culture and wellness workshops and activities and suggest modifications with input from Site Managers, Tribal partners, and Culture & Wellness Director.
  • Maintain resources of information on culture and wellness topics and assist participants with inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide workshop schedule to Social Media Management Team, Site Staff, and Tribal Liaison for distribution, when available.
  • Serve as liaison between CTTP, Tribal partners, and qualified individuals/vendors that have an approved culture and wellness RFP/ESP.
  • Coordinate with site staff to provide culture, prevention, and wellness workshops/ activities.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of community wellness events.
  • Track participants being served by culture and wellness workshops/activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement annual Youth Leadership & Wellness Gathering.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • High School Diploma (or high school equivalency) plus two years related experience and/or training or a combination of training and experience.
  • Current California driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of tribal culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma, tribal youth engagement, and community outreach.
  • Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of database, spreadsheet, word processing, video conferencing, and e-mail software, as well as Internet research.
  • Ability to present in front of a large group, in person or virtually.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently.
  • Ability to approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, and treat others with respect and consideration, regardless of their status or position.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work well with groups and use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to identify, gather, and analyze training material skillfully.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Requires sitting 6-8 hours per day.
  • Requires driving to site offices and partner tribes, some of which are in remote locations.
  • Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone, via e-mail, via video platform, or through correspondence).
  • Includes conflict situations.
  • Requires working with others in a group or team.
  • Requires meeting strict deadlines.

 

OTHER

 

  • Knowledge and experience working with Tribal youth and families.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Requires extensive travel throughout the CTTP service area.
  • CTTP conducts a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test, and random or for-cause drug testing thereafter.
  • CTTP complies with the Indian Preference Act.
