Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CCID), the Graduate Student Mentor of the Caltech Center for Inclusion & Diversity (CCID) will support the Director and serve as a programming assistant for CCID’s signature programs, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF), First-Year Success Research Institute (FSRI), and training. This position will mentor undergraduate research students, provide writing assistance to students engaged in research opportunities, guide students as they apply to graduate programs and funding opportunities, develop curriculum and graduate program preparatory topics for MMUF meetings, and facilitate inclusive mentorship workshops. The role also involves assisting with programming needs, including marketing, generating reports, and maintaining advising and mentoring notes for CCID’s Signature programs and training, thereby contributing to the diversity and inclusion initiatives of the CCID and aligning with the organization's values.
Essential Job Duties
$24.25 - $27.00 per hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Essential Job Duties
- Support, develop, and implement workshops and activities related to historically underrepresented and marginalized identities in higher education and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) professional fields
- Provide one-on-one or group guidance to MMUF and FSRI participants through applications for research opportunities, graduate programs, funding opportunities, and navigating higher education and STEM environments.
- Assist Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows and FSRI students with academic writing and presentations for research projects.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress toward student outcomes.
- Conduct three workshops and training sessions per term on inclusive mentorship and research-related topics such as graduate school success, software tools, and academic presentation skills.
- Create occasional content for MMUF alums completing graduate programs via email, newsletter, or social media engagement.
- Other duties as assigned
- Currently enrolled student in a research-based PhD program.
- Commitment to undergraduate research and mentorship of diverse students.
- Experience working in a college environment and/or a multicultural setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance on academic writing and research presentations.
- Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Administrative experience.
