Position Description
JOB TITLE: Graphic Designer
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Director of Communications
STATUS: Exempt, Salary 12-month Administrative Calendar
HOURS: Full Time (40)
LOCATION: Calvary Christian Academy, Fort Lauderdale

Primary Responsibilities:
Creativity // Productivity // Flexibility
Creativity - More important than just being able to have a solid understanding of the tools (programs) to do design work, having exceptional creativity is imperative to this role. Graphic Design deals with visual communication, and the graphic designer is expected to creatively and effectively solve communication challenges and problems on a regular basis. This is the most essential qualification to this role.
Productivity - If the ability to be creative is the most essential qualification for the role of a Graphic Designer, the ability to consistently produce your work in a timely manner is right behind it. No matter how creative someone is, they will not be a valuable employee if they cannot complete a high volume of projects on time. The expectation for this role is to do just that - produce many pieces of effective and creative communication consistently on time.
Flexibility - There is great diversity in the projects that any given Graphic Designer might encounter. Some might be an opportunity to be highly creative and experimental in coming up with a design solution, others may be simpler and require or demand less creativity to function in a more utilitarian sense. Either way, the designer's role is to approach each project with their best effort so that each piece fulfills its communication goal as best as possible. This role demands the flexibility and understanding that some projects will be different than others, but all require their best work.

Accountability // Collaboration // Initiative
Accountability - The role of a Graphic Designer comes with accountability - to deadlines and to personal time management. Any given project comes with a specific set of deadlines and it is the designer’s role to make sure these deadlines are met to the best of their ability. Additionally, the designer is expected to stay up to date in the latest design and communication trends & software.
Collaboration - With any creative team there needs to be a collaboration with other creatives. The expectation here is that the designer is to freely share ideas with others on a regular basis for the benefit of the team. Sometimes this is a challenge. Sometimes this is not. Regardless of whether it is or not, personal pride and ego should not inhibit collaboration.
Initiative - Graphic Design is communication. Good communication is easy to see and recognize and value. Conversely, so is bad and ineffective communication. The Graphic Designer is expected to recognize the areas where design and communication needs are to be addressed and take initiative to come up with a solution and present them to their overseer.
Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:
- Strong Personal Commitment to Jesus Christ
- Commitment to the Philosophy and Statement of Faith of Calvary Chapel.
- Excellent organizational skills with an appreciation for details
- Gift of administration and leadership
- The ability to assess, administer, develop and implement (processes, procedures, workflow, etc.)
- Prepare, organize, and structure meetings
- Excellent interpersonal skills for relating effectively with staff members, leadership, the church body, and community
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Printing production processes
- Computer skills in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Word, & general computer skills
- Mac User
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task
- Results-oriented, adaptable, flexible, loyal
- Effectively uses technology
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Full time (40 hours/week); however, it may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project or in a circumstantial emergency affecting the church facilities.
