Job Overview
As a Laboratory Intern, you will provide a variety of support for laboratory functions in accordance with industry practices. This role is responsible for the cleanliness of the laboratory and to provide functional assistance for glassware maintenance, autoclave, and media preparation. You will become familiar with departmental duties such as operation of equipment, documentation requirements, and following standard operating procedures in this role. As a Laboratory Intern, you will receive introductory training as well as provide miscellaneous back up support to other team members within your department. Each internship session is 400 hours of work, and a session can be full-time or part-time. We envision that students would prefer full-time schedules during the summer break and would prefer part-time schedules during regular semesters to accommodate classes.

Job Overview

Responsibilities
- Completes training on MasterControl, pH qualification, aseptic technique qualification
- Cleans the lab, restocking and chemical disposal AKA “lab contamination control and materials management”
- Conducts USP purified water sampling
- Cleans and maintains laborartory dishes AKA “laboratory glassware maintenance”
- Autoclaves AKA “steam sterilization and introduction to sterile gowning”
- Prepares microbiology media
Qualifications/Skills
- Follows written procedures; performs basic math calculations
- Promotes a safe work environment. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may be in clean room gowning for extended period of time. Understands and follows safety procedures and works in a manner to avoid injury to self and co-workers.
- Ability to work in a regulated environment (FDA/DEA/OSHA) and strictly follow procedures
- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing. Ability to read and comprehend detailed written instructions.
- Ability to clearly and concisely document all work activities in a timely manner utilizing existing forms and records and with legible handwriting.
- Performs basic math functions to include product accountability, material adjustment calculations and rounding.
- Ability to move materials through facility using appropriate methods and equipment.
- Ability to operate machinery and read process control instruments to ensure proper operation.
- Ability to clean rooms, equipment, and tools for use in cGMP environment.
- Ability to maintain positive attendance record.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work in a team environment.
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Must be currently enrolled in an academic degree program (Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree)
- At least 6 Biology and/or Chemistry credit hours
