Title: Head Coach
Reports to: Athletic Director
Work Year: Seasonal
Position Focus: The focus of the Head Coach is to teach student-athletes the skills of a sport and how they should properly utilize those skills as they participate in that sport. The purpose of this position is to oversee all coaches and student-athletes, from LS to the varsity level, ensuring the overall development and growth of the program. The Head Coach interacts directly with other coaches, parents, and student-athletes as a representative of the mission and vision of CCS.

· Follow the Matthew 18 principal in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.

· Subscribe to and promote the statement of faith, mission, and vision of CCS.
· All staff are ministers of Christ.
Position Parameters:
· Devise a plan of discipleship, at all levels of the program, ensuring that in all things Christ is pre-eminent and that older athletes are developing younger athletes spiritually and athletically.
· Actively seek opportunities to raise financial support for the development of athletic facilities in collaboration with athletic director.
· Supervise the coaching staff at all levels of the program, to ensure athletes and coaches are growing spiritually, athletically, and socially.
· Conduct evaluations of your coaching staff and other coaches in the overall program.
· Assign coaches and student-athletes to assist in the intramural program for your sport in support of growing your program as the foundational level.
· Operate within the annual budget for your support in consultation with the AD.
· Oversee the ordering of spirit pack items for your sport on all levels, in consultation and approval of the AD.
· Attend at least one coaching clinic per year for professional development.
· Ensure attendance of your coaching staff, on all levels, at the annual coaches training.
· Maintain unity with the AD, keeping him informed on the details of your program and not operate as an “Island” unto yourself.
· Work well with other coaches of other sports to “Share” our athletes in support of the overall athletic program.
· Represent CCS at FHSAA district planning meetings for your sport.
· Ensure your coaches have completed appropriate background checks and have been approved by the AD before offering them a position in your program.
· Have regular meetings with your coaching staff to ensure continuity of the program as it relates to development and discipleship.
· Conduct/plan/organize/staff a summer camp for your sport.
· Ensure that all players within your system have physicals and are academically eligible for participation and have paid their sport fees.
· Provide list of needs, wants, and desires to AD for budget consideration.
· Plan team outings/outreach for your program to increase unity with your sport.
· Complete inventory of equipment and uniforms and store properly.
· Report scores/results to MaxPreps and athletic office.
· Market your players to the media and provide opportunities for college placement.
· Provide AD with teams you would like to play for scheduling purposes.
· Make an overall practice schedule for all teams within your sport in consultation with the athletic director for placement on the calendar.
· Provide support for all HOME games as requested by the AD i.e.: gate workers/scorebook/concessions within your sport.
· Help place athletes within your program on teams according to talent and ability.
· Consult with athletic director, coaches, and parents on team issues.
· Coordinate coaching assignments and travel supervision for all teams.
· Monitor CCS compliance with FHSAA rules and regulations.
· Conducts parent meetings for your sport giving guidance to coaches on all levels.
· Plan off-season conditioning programs and camps for your sport in consultation with the athletic director.
· Oversee field/gym conditions and report needs to AD, properly securing equipment, organizing storage area, and keeping balls/uniforms locked up after use.
· Provide the AD with sport award nights information i.e.: award names, prepare presentation script and ensure attendance by all players and parents.
· Complete all assigned duties, as given by the athletic director, in a timely manner.
· Keep equipment codes confidential and only for coaching staff, not players.
· Maintain cleanliness of uniforms and when after the washer/dryer facility room, ensure the door is locked and secure. Inform AD when/if laundry detergent is empty.
· Sweep and keep the gym floor clean and pick up all dust and properly dispose in trash can, not leaving piles of dust alongside the gym floor.
· After cleaning the floor, properly place brooms/mops back into the appropriate location.
· Water/Gatorade rolling carts are only used for games, not practices. Large bottles of water in the jugs are not for filling up coolers for games and/or practices.
· Maintain proper care of the scoreboard control panels and properly secure after each use.
· Keep the concession door always locked and secure after use.
· Maintain a sense of authority as the head coach and not seek to be “buddy-buddy” with your players. They have friends, they need a coach and mentor. This will help ensure proper respect is always shown.
· Be a counseling resource for your players, but not “friend” them on social media or have “private” chats with your student-athletes via texting etc.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of coaching the sport.
- Complete all FHSAA requirements to coach.
- Complete Fingerprinting/Background Check
- Certified in CPR and First Aid
- Obtain CDL as directed by the AD
