LEAD INSPECTOR
PAY PLAN: 115 - $ 37,679.00 minimum salary
Purpose of Classification
Performs professional technical work reviewing plans, blueprints, site plans, and specifications submitted with a building permit application or site development and building and construction site inspections for the construction of new residential and commercial structures. Other duties include hosting meetings, receiving and resolving staff questions and citizen complaints, performing field inspections, and ensuring compliance with building codes, subdivision regulations, and other County rules. Other duties as required. Positions in this class perform routine technical and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer questions; and maintain documents and records.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Examine plans and specifications of residential and commercial structural, plumbing, electrical and mechanical installation to ensure code and regulations compliance
Assists County Building Official in supervising all building inspectors and clerical staff; final approval on all permit applications; conducts building plan reviews, subdivision reviews and property searches; Assists in oversight of daily operations of Building Code Enforcement and Damage Assessment Team.
Advise architects, designers, contractors, and owners on code and design requirements. Interpret code and regulation requirements and assists building inspectors with difficult or unusual code requirements.
Reviews building permit applications, verifies they comply with all County Building Regulations, approves and issues building permits. Performs all building and construction site inspections to insure compliance with city codes and state regulations; conducts routine field inspections.
Prepare and maintain records and reports. A detailed, working knowledge of current regulations and limitations of all codes and ordinances enforced by the County.
Prepares various department documents requiring knowledge of department policies, programs, and procedures and which may involve researching, compiling, analyzing, retrieving and/or summarizing data.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Requires seven (7) years' experience in reading and interpreting architectural/engineering plans, blueprints, site plans, and drawings. Must obtain Certification as an International Code Council Inspector and Certification as an International Code Council ICC Certification in at least three (3) inspection areas (building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, plan examiner) within six (6) months of employment.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility. Must submit to a Civil Service Clerical Exam.
