Junior Counselor

Join us on stunning Mount Desert Island (Bar Harbor)! We are a premier outdoor education
day camp with 50 acres of woods bordering Acadia National Park and significant waterfront
on Echo Lake. Camp Beech Cliff welcomes qualified applicants for the Junior Counselor
position. Junior Counselors work with a small group of campers, within the ages of 5 – 10
years, to develop group comradery, making new friends, and having fun in the outdoors.
Junior Counselors assist and lead through participation with camp programs (boating,
swimming, arts and crafts, archery, and more!). All staff must adhere to the health and
safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept. of Human Services Youth Camps Division,
and standards for accreditation with the American Camping Association.

Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp counselor is challenging,
demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle
sacrifices may have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology
during the camp day. At CBC, sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide
youngsters the opportunity to grow, learn to positively relate to others, establish life-long
values, and increase their appreciation of the natural world. Salary depends on level of
experience and relevant certifications ($400 - $500 per week).

Minimum qualifications: At least 16 years of age and motivation to work with kids. Must
enjoy working with youth of all backgrounds, and be passionate about working outdoors.
Commitment to camp Mid-June through end of August.

Preferred qualifications: Previous camp work and at least two years of direct experience
leading activities for kids within ages 5 - 10 years.
