Organization Overview:

At Camp Fire Columbia, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to find and pursue their spark– a passion that inspires and drives them to set and achieve goals for their future. Founded in 1910, our comprehensive program starts with early intervention at the elementary level, bridges the learning gap for middle school, and helps students thrive and plan for bright futures during high school. During the school year, Camp Fire works in partnership with dozens of schools in the Metro Area. During the summer months, we offer summer camps in the Portland metro area and at our beautiful 552-acre camp, Camp Namanu, bordered by the vibrant Sandy River and presided over by century old trees. Our programs directly serve over 4,000 kids ages 5-18 each year across an eight-county area, including the greater Portland metro region. Position overview:

The Development Manager is responsible for collaboratively planning and implementing a comprehensive development program. This position is responsible for developing fundraising strategies that will enhance Camp Fire’s image and brand, while also supporting the development department’s cultivation and stewardship efforts including multiple special events annually that engage various audiences, build key relationships with prospects, supporters, donors, board members, and attract new donors.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. This role will come in contact with students, campers, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. This includes race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity, and other identities.   2. Serve as a core, participating member of the Development and Communications team, contributing to the long-term and day-to-day strategy and implementation of departmental tactics, such as targeted marketing, fundraising events and campaigns, donor cultivation and foundation relations.
  3. Collaboratively create and implement strategy to build a diverse pipeline of annual contributors, major donors, foundation and corporate partners.
  4. Develop individual portfolio of donors that are giving $100-$500 and have capacity to give $1,000 or more.
  5. Engage and solicit annual donors.
  6. Lead the planning, development, design, and logistics for Camp Fire’s fundraising related events including small cultivation events.



Requirements

Job Duties

Individual Giving

  • Work closely with Director of Development to establish annual cultivation and stewardship plan/calendar.
  • Initiate contact with donors, align giving priorities, and successfully solicit gifts.
  • Steward donor relationships by ensuring fulfillment of benefits, along with consistent, creative and valued appreciation activities.
  • Conduct prospect research, including participating in development of individual portfolios for staff and volunteers who are soliciting on behalf of Camp Fire.
  • Coordinates content and writes internal and external communication pieces including newsletters, brochures, scripts, flyers, sponsorship proposals etc.

Corporate Sponsorship

  • Manage corporate event sponsorship stewardship/recognition and event budgets.
  • Identify sponsorship prospects and lead outreach for corporate sponsorship, donations, and procurement for events and year-round giving efforts.

Events

  • Work with Director of Development to meet the revenue and recruitment goals for each fundraising event and maintain accurate records and data for all events.
  • Process all sponsor recognition, contracts, insurance requests, and accounts payable and receivable as related to fundraising events.
  • Closely manage event registration and develop highly effective registration processes for the events.
  • Effectively recruit, coordinate, and steward event volunteers.
  • Keep track of event finances including check requests, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Prepare name tags, materials, registration lists, seating cards, etc. and coordinate print, mailing, and distribution activities for all special events.
  • Manage day-of production and clean-up for events, as necessary.

Database Management

  • Lead gift processing, prospect research, and donor acknowledgement, as well as developing practices and policies for management of donor, alumni, and funder related data.
  • Process all gifts and acknowledgments; following fundraising best practices and adhere to information-storing guidelines.
  • Manage the development database, including establishing data entry standards, entering data, and exporting relevant information.
  • Assist team with projects related to fundraising events, including data management in auction-specific software, and updates to organization’s CRM.
  • Interface with the finance department and ensure timely and accurate reconciliation.

Staff

  • Recruit, train, develop, supervise and retain staff member(s).
  • Develop and sustain high staff satisfaction and morale through individual coaching and team building.
  • Work with staff to create a team culture that embodies the organization’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Support development team with administrative duties.
  • Attend Camp Fire meetings and events, as required.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not currently have any supervisory responsibilities for staff but could grow to supervise development associates, data entry staff, and/or volunteers.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training in fundraising, event planning, corporate relations or similar experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Corporate and individual fundraising experience strongly preferred Supervisory experience preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills

Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

A valid insurable Driver’s License is preferred.
