Looking for a place to make a difference and spend your summer outside? Do you have a passion for summer camp, high adventure, crafts, outdoor skills, STEM or empowering girls, teens and young women then Camp Meriwether is for you! We are a true camp complete with a lake for canoeing and kayaking as well as Stand Up Paddle Boarding; a challenge course; a large English based equestrian program; miles of hiking trails; arts and crafts; large swimming pool and climate controlled cabins and dining hall.

During the summer we operate a premiere residential program for 2nd-12th graders. We are looking for dynamic young women to provide a top rate camping experience for your girls. All staff will live and work on camp starting the end of May until the beginning of August. In the evenings we will spend time with our friends around the campfire, or at a pool party, or show off our talents at the amphitheater. Staff can expect to have from Friday night through Sunday Morning off each week. Staff applying should have a willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure the girls have a fantastic time while at camp and be 100% girl focused while in your care!

Job Summary:

The equestrian program coordinator is responsible for camper supervision when in the barn, assisting with daily care and preparation of horses, leading activities, and providing an exciting, fun, and memorable experience for all campers.

  • Camp Meriwethers Equestrian program focuses on English pleasure, Hunter/Jumper, Dressage, and Mounted Equitation for girls ages 7-17.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in supervisor training prior to camp
  • Help plan, implement and conduct staff training and orientation with Leadership Team
  • Supervise, guide and evaluate counselors as it pertains to your leadership area
  • Coordinate activity development and activity plans of assigned program area, working with staff to create lesson plans
  • Responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality programming in your assigned area
  • Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behaviors, language, attitudes, and activities
  • Maintain child’s self-esteem and inspire self-discovery
  • Professional and positive redirection of campers during activity participation
  • Facilitate and model communication, conflict resolution and problem solving within the campers and staff
  • Help girls and staff develop individual responsibility
  • Keep their supervisor informed of plans, problems and concerns pertinent to girls, staff and program areas
  • Live with other program staff and create a staff space
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills & Experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to evaluate performance and give feedback
  • Experience working with children and horses
  • Maturity in problem solving and decision making
  • Good health and stamina necessary to live in the camp setting for 8-10 weeks
  • Ability to stand for a long period of time and traverse uneven terrain 2-5 miles per day
  • Ability to life 25 pounds
  • Ability to make decisions and act wisely in an emergency
  • Sense of adventure and enthusiasm to motivate and coach campers and staff
  • Be able to commit for the whole summer (May 16th- August 2nd)
  • Preferred minimum age 21 with at least 1 year of camp counseling experience or teaching English based lesson program
  • Must be able to complete & clear a Criminal, and Sex Offender background check

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $90.00 - $100.00 per day

Supplemental pay types:

  • Bonus pay
