What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Dance Teacher position at Camp Zeke?
Camp Zeke is a Jewish overnight camp in Lakewood, PA that celebrates healthy, active living. In addition to traditional summer camp activities, we offer a full culinary art and baking program for campers, along with various fitness electives such as yoga, strength training, and krav maga.
While Camp Zeke is a Jewish camp, our staff come from all different backgrounds.
Camp Zeke is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Dance Specialist (half leading/half teaching) /counselor to work from June 14th to August 9th.
Dance Specialist
Responsibilities
- Create, organize and facilitate Camp Zeke’s dance elective and specialty program. As the dance specialist, you will be responsible for developing a curriculum in which is appropriate to the varying ages and abilities of our campers. This should include stretching and warm-up exercises, and instruction in techniques and skill building exercises.
- Lead 2 x 50 minute dance electives and 2 x 2 hour specialties per day (5 days a week) for upper and lower camp with assistance from counsellors/dance instructors - always maintaining safety as the highest priority.
- You will plan the specialty programs in which campers which should build skills throughout the week and help to improve the camper's knowledge of the dance as well as their skills.
- You will teach varying styles of dance, including ballet, modern, hip hop, jazz and Israeli dance. Of course, the styles you teach would be based on those you have knowledge of and are comfortable leading.
- Supervise the other members of the dance teaching staff, and ensure that they are properly training and working with our campers. Conduct periodic reviews of their performance in cooperation with the curriculum and program directors.
- Properly maintain and care for all equipment used in the dance program, and immediately inform the program office if any equipment is no longer usable or safe.
- Lead specialty programs including special events day, all camp trips and evening activities
- Assist program team by taking lead role in implementing evening activities, alongside all other dedicated program staff.
- Assists in all other areas of camp as needed and joins all aspects of camp life. The successful employee takes on numerous roles in the camp community, outside of their job description, to make the experience safe, fun, joyful, and enriching for campers and staff.
- You will live in a cabin with the campers. Specialists serve as full counselors. They bond with the campers, form mentor relationships with junior staff, provide support to co-counselors, assist with wake-up, clean-up, bedtime and special cabin events. They eat all meals with their cabin group. When they need the time to prepare for their specialty, specialists are not required to be present for transitions or rest hour. When they are not preparing for their specialty, they should join the bunk during those times. Specialists are part of the on-duty rotation.
