What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Education Instructor position at Camp Zeke?
Camp Zeke is a sleepaway camp in Lakewood, PA that celebrates healthy, active living. We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented outdoor adventure director (half leading/half teaching) to work from June 13th to August 8th. There is some flexibility in the start date for full time school teachers.
Responsibilities of Outdoor Adventure Director at camp:
- Develop and implement a curriculum of Outdoor Adventure activities for campers of two age groups: 2nd-5th grade and 6th-12th grade
- Coordinate a team of program counselors to implement your Outdoor Adventure program
- Daily activities should include: hiking, shelter and fire building, mountain biking, zip line & climbing, archery, outdoor education, and campouts.
- Instruct and lead campers in wilderness survival techniques, including fire starting, plant identification, navigation, wildlife safety, safe drinking water and the concept of “leave no trace.”
- Lead the campers in using the natural resources to construct structures in nature, such as lean-tos, shelters and creative structures on camp.
- Maintain inventory of all equipment related to the Outdoor Adventure program.
- Lead specialty programs including special events day, all camp trips and evening activities
- Assist in all other areas of camp as needed and joins all aspects of camp life. The successful employee takes on numerous roles in the camp community, outside of their job description, to make the experience more fun, joyful, and enriching for campers and staff.
Qualifications of Outdoor Adventure Director at camp:
We are ideally looking for someone with camp experience. You should have experience teaching or working in outdoor adventure, and it would be a plus if you have taught it to kids before. You should be free to work and move to our camp from June 13 to August 8th this summer.
