General Description of the Role
The Americas Engineering Director is part of the Global Engineering team and responsible to manage all engineering activities in the Americas region.
She/he is responsible:
to manage the CAPEX budget (- 200M USD) for the entire region (6 bottling factories – 6 distilleries);
- to manage most important engineering projects of the region;
- to deliver feasibility studies with capex estimation;
- to support all plants and work operationally with local Engineering organizations.
The role works closely with VP Manufacturing Americas and with all manufacturing sites leadership teams.
Key enabler is a strong external network with key partners, vendors and innovation centres.
Main accountabilities and tasks
- Collect from factories, distilleries and from other regional functions (Quality, H&S, Envy Sustainability, Logistics, R&D) bottom-up requests to build the capex budget and strategic plan (3 years). Proposals should cover needs to reach annual and strategic plan targets, to match production growth, to assure business continuity.
- Help factories and distilleries to generate ideas and transfer best practices to deliver productivity on all dimensions.
- Evaluate priorities and consistency of proposals, together with Director Global Engineering and VP Regional Manufacturing, to get approval of the regional capex budget from Company Officers.
- Control the capital expenditure process along the year for all sites and track plants projects, involving CAPEX, to avoid delays and late result delivery.
- Participate to supplier selection with a technical perspective.
- Manage through her/his direct team, regional projects with huge capex involved:
- plant capacity growth;
- main equipment substitution or extraordinary refurbishment;
- energy intensity, water intensity, carbon footprint reduction;
- loss prevention and risk management;
- transfer or in-sourcing of production lines.
- Estimate capital needs in early stages of activities such as product renewal (e.g. bottle, cap, label, …), “make or buy” analyses, capacity growth, production transfer, as a reflection on manufacturing process (equipment, format change, buildings, tanks for cellars, …) to support the decision-making process.
- Direct Engineering local managers to work with their teams and deliver:
- performance improvement to manufacturing lines, cellars, utilities and buildings;
- productivity plans to contribute keeping cost per liter flat year-over-year;
- Factory Master Plan to design and manage a consistent evolution and optimization of each site;
- rigorous purchase, installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Sponsor and facilitate the implementation of standard Engineering KPI, processes, tools, methods and procedures:
- Problem Solving methodologies (e.g. PDCA, A3, 8D, …)
- Process-FMEAs
- CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, Validation)
- O.E.E.
- Identify and transfer best practices from plant to plant and out of the region.
- Build and keep alive a network with suppliers, Universities, Research Centers, Institutions to have an updated benchmark with external environment and catch innovation trends.
Characteristics
- Skills & Competencies to generate, manage and track capex budget.
- Proven track record of costs controlling & KPIs management.
- Excellent project management skills, PMI certified is a plus.
- Ability to manage people and teams in different countries through leadership, coaching and training.
- Knowledge and practical application of tools and techniques for:
- Problem Solving;
- TPM e Lean Manufacturing;
- Process-FMEA;
- Energy Management.
- Knowledge of KPIs like OEE, MTBF, MTTR.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels of the organization: can convey technical matters in an easy way and interact effectively from the shopfloor to senior stakeholders
- Knowledge of safety directives, laws and risk analysis methods applied to machines and equipment
Languages:
Fluent written and spoken English.
Preference for good spoken Spanish.
Key relationships:
Internal: Plant Directors, regional Q team, regional H&S Team, regional Procurement Team, regional Logistics Team, Global Engineering Team
External: suppliers, universities and research centers, ….
Experience and Education:
- Experience of at least 15 years in factories with leading positions in Production and/or Plant Engineering and/or Maintenance.
- Engineering university degree
- Preference for experience in Food & Beverage
Other requirements:
Able to travel to Campari main plants (Italy, France, Mexico, Jamaica, USA) on a monthly base
