Job DescriptionResponsible for providing preconstruction services for upcoming projects at the bid stage including but not limited to scope review, contract review and forming partnership with internal and external partners.
Essential Functions
- Meet departmental objectives.
- Assist in structuring partnership agreements that support Canam's business goals.
- Acquire and communicate industry intelligence and partnership opportunities to key stakeholders at Canam.
- Establish and maintain relationships with major design firms and provide early input while keeping track of projects in the design-development phase.
- Compile lists of prospective customers and projects available for bid, for use as sales leads.
- Review bids and ensure clarity, comprehensiveness and rigorousness of scope of work.
- Prepare and finalize proposals to reflect Canam's bid to meet customer requirements.
- Continually profile each account to determine customer needs and identify decision makers.
- Work with Canam engineering and detailing departments as well as other stakeholders to provide the most (cost) effective solutions for projects at bid stage utilizing Canam's wide range of products and services.
- Work with partners and internal teams during feasibility studies and scope reviews.
- Monitor activities and pricing levels of due industry.
- Submit bids to customers.
- Give the initial date of delivery to the customer, based on the shop's production and delivery schedules during the bid stage.
- Interpret and explain quotes to customers, including exclusions and qualifications.
- Assist administrative functions (credit, tax, insurance) in resolution of potential problems.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company's policies and applicable laws.
- Coordinate liaison between preconstruction department and other related units and departments.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors.
- Perform other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- 15 years sales experience in the steel industry.
- Ability to travel 25-50%.
- Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design, fabrication and installation concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings. Structural engineering background would be preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, estimating and engineering teams as well as potential customers and partners.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret design documents, technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
- Extensive understanding of verbal and written contract agreements as related to acceptable industry standards.
- Ability to use AISC manual, code of standard practice for performing feasibility studies, providing solutions and value engineering.
- Exceptional negotiation skills.
- Infallible integrity and knowledge of acceptable selling practices in this specific industry and ability to establish good rapport with customers.
Physical Demands
Generally seated work with regular periods required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear, and reach with hands and arms. Seldom required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Seldom required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
