CancerCare Hopeline Specialist
National Office
This is a hybrid position and will require both in-person and remote work
Salary $27.47 per hour
Cancer Care is the leading national organization dedicated to providing free, professional support services, including resource navigation, individual counseling, support groups, educational workshops, publications, and financial assistance to anyone affected by cancer.
Cancer Care ’s National Office location seeks a part-time Hopeline Specialist to be responsible for delivering Cancer Care ’s free services to people whose lives are affected by cancer.
They will work two days from 9 AM to 5 PM in person, and one day from 10 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday for up to 22 hours per week.
The remaining hour can be added to any day selected and preapproved.
The Hopeline Specialist will be responsible for :
- Providing immediate assistance and support to cancer patients, caregivers and / or those who are bereaved by contacting Cancer Care via a national toll-free Hopeline
- Addressing client needs by conducting timely and effective financial assessments and evaluations as needed
- Utilizes knowledge of community resources to refer clients to appropriate services to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Documenting all activities in a timely manner according to departmental protocols
- Participating in local presentations, workshops, health fairs, fundraising, walks and community events
- Upholding the Cancer Care brand and philosophy
- Demonstrating a commitment and passion about the organization’s mission and goals
Requirements
- Bilingual Spanish Strongly Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree Required, preferably in social work, human services or psychology
- Formal training in health education of two years or equivalent experience
- Prior experience in a health-related environment, preferably with an oncology focus, preferably in a customer service or customer care role
- Prior experience utilizing cancer screening programs and navigation services
- A willingness to work with clients who are experiencing stress and trauma in their lives as a result of coping with chronic and life-threatening illnesses
- Excellent communication (both oral and written), highly organized with strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to write quickly, clearly and compellingly
- Strong verbal skills, including a clear and distinct speaking voice, solid writing, telephone, and interpersonal skills, including soft skills (e.
g., empathy, establishing rapport, active listening, etc.)
