Due to the scope and needs of manufacturing operations, this position is an office-based position and is not eligible for remote work.
The EH&S Manager will work out of our Brownwood, TX facility and report to the Operations Manager. As part of the 90-day training period, key responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Manage forklift Training and forklift certifications
- Coordinate and attend monthly OSHA classes
- Lead safety committee meetings
- Coordinate with a vendor to train managers/employees in CPR and First Aid
- Maintain bulletin boards with safety documents
- Understand and be able to perform the manufacturing process from start to finish including batching, extrusion, packaging process
- Train new hires and in cross training initiatives to support the skills matrix
- Have a baseline understanding of Solo Chain (Handheld)
- Become backup leadership while Shift Managers are on vacation
- Fill in for Batching, Extrusion or Packaging if Operator is out
- Assist in measuring the effectiveness of learning Conduct team safety meetings & trainings, both on the production floor and in a more formal classroom setting
- Provide orientation for all new employees to ensure safety guidelines are fully understood
- Create new proactive safety and environmental policies and review existing policies to reduce risk and close safety and/or regulatory gaps
- Make recommendations to improve site safety, reduce risk and achieve / maintain compliance for an employee / labor and environmental safety standpoint
- Maintain a deep understanding of the end-to-end process and machinery to better develop processes and perform risk assessments
- Work with environmental and safety consultants, OSHA, TCEQ and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance
- Record all site incidents to ensure reporting guidelines are met and safety protocols are followed
- Ability to walk around facility
- Work with Manager/Operation Manager to schedule training sessions
- Other Duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Forklift Certification
- Must be willing to submit a background check and pre-employment drug screening
- Must be eligible to work in the US
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working on the floor of a production facility
- Minimum 3 years pet food experience in Pet Food
- 3 to 5 years of experience in people management in a manufacturing setting
- BA/BS in Food Science or Business
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift 50 lbs
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours
- Ascend/descend a ladder or stairs daily
- Ability to operate a computer and other office technology
- Occasionally position self to access low spaces
- Ability to observe details at close range
- Must be able to relay accurate information via multiple communication vehicles including verbal and written mechanisms
- Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures
