    Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 166-day Teacher Salary Schedule and based on education and experience. Starting salary range is $42,254 - $72,678

    Purpose of the Job:
    The AVID elective teacher is a skilled educator grounded in relationships. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an academic acceleration program that aims to prepare students for careers in the workforce and/or successful transition into high school and beyond. The AVID elective curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, note-taking, and study skills. AVID elective students also enroll in other rigorous courses. The AVID elective teacher is responsible for supporting students’ academic success across content areas. This teacher will also provide support across the building to help engage students who are struggling.

    Minimum Requirements:
    Education: Bachelor's Degree
    Experience: 3 plus years of experience in K-12 education preferred
    Licenses/Certificates: Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License properly endorsed proposed assignment. If a vocational teacher must hold a valid Colorado
    Vocational Credential appropriately endorsed for proposed assignment. Highly desired that this person also be AVID trained or have a background knowledge of AVID instructional techniques.

    Other Criteria:
    • Criminal background check required for hire
    • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public.
    • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen, comply with directions and instructions, complete tasks, and establish priorities.
    • Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
    • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
    • Must pass pre-employment physical
    • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
    • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data
    • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
    • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
    • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
    • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Essential Duties of the Job:
    • Develop an AVID program by collaborating with stakeholders (AVID students, AVID parents, counselors, administrators, and teachers).
    • Establish and maintain high expectations for AVID students’ achievement.
    • Collect and analyze AVID student data and regularly monitor AVID students’ academic progress.
    • Advocate for all students' engagement in coursework as the building engagement specialist.
    • Teach and promote the use of WICOR instructional strategies across content areas.
    • Collaborate with Elementary and High School stakeholders to develop vertical alignment in multiple areas.
    • Work to help establish and maintain the AVID site goals in the building
    • Other duties as assigned

    Supervisory Responsibilities: Paraprofessionals at times

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Teachers are held to high expectations for their performance to ensure success of the individual and the District in serving students and the community. Teachers are held to the District’s Licensed Personnel Performance Evaluation System that consists of the State’s Quality Standards, elements, and performance indicators which point to fulfillment of the teaching responsibility. A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the following standards:

    Quality Standard I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.
    Quality Standard II: Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
    Quality Standard III: Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students
    Quality Standard IV: Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.
