Overview

The Data Architect Lead will support the fast-growing Data Office. You will be working in Canoo’s Data Office supporting data architecture functions across data governance, data management and data products. You will have the opportunity to put your footprint on the growth of this team and accelerate delivery for our business functions such as Marketing, Sales, Customer Journey, Engineering & Manufacturing. 

Responsibilities

The Data Architect Lead is responsible for driving the architecture of data and processes to meet business needs. In addition, the Data Architect will lead the design, build, and management of the overall infrastructure and underlying data model that will deliver accurate, reliable data to the right place, in the right format, at the right time. This position will be part of Canoo Data Office and will bring strong quantitative skills, experience, strategic vision, and governance to our data capabilities. In this role, you will be engaged in projects that will ultimately use the data for advanced analytics techniques, such as optimization, forecasting, machine learning, predictive maintenance, dashboarding, reporting, and statistical analysis, to develop solutions that help deliver significant value to customers.

  • Develop a comprehensive data architecture capable of supporting various data types (structured, semi-structured, unstructured) and analytics needs from reporting to machine learning.
  • Visualize and design a high-level technical design and framework that can be easily broken down into lower levels of detail.
  • Evaluate and implement a variety of modern data tools (Python, SQL, NoSQL, AWS Data Lakes, Cloud Data Warehouses) to build ETLs, ELTs and data models.
  • Provide a standard common business vocabulary, expresses strategic requirements, outlines high-level integrated designs to meet those requirements, and aligns with enterprise strategy and related business architecture.
  • Collaborate with business, product, and technology teams early in product lifecycle to influence end-to-end architecture, including functional and non-functional aspects.
  • Align with industry best practices to create new capabilities for data architecture/design.
  • Participate with cross-disciplinary project teams of database engineers, data scientists and business subject-matter experts to implement solutions.
  • Provide expert advice, counsel, and technical expertise to Data Governance project teams to implement integrated data governance capabilities using industry leading Data Governance (MDM & EMM) tools such as Informatica.
  • Advocate architecture principles and methodologies to ensure solutions are designed and developed in the optimal manner and in accordance with automotive industry and vendor MDM, DQ, Data Catalog, Data Security Management best practices.
  • Define the Critical Success Factors and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for success of a data governance program.
  • Provide inputs to or owning Roadmap of the Enterprise Data Catalog & related initiatives.
  • Lead sessions with business and technical stakeholders to identify key data elements, achieve consensus on definitions for those elements/terms.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability and stewardship for information assets to achieve the required level of quality and consistency.
  • Partner with teams to manage metadata across data platform & promote self-service data discovery and exploration.
  • Partner with the business to design and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Partner with the Risk and Compliance team to drive consistent security processes across internal data platform, and to classify, secure and protect sensitive data.
  • Work with engineering teams to define processes to capture and manage data lineage in the data catalog.
  • Perform functional configuration tasks, testing, and migrations related to the data catalog
  • Perform proactive data profiling, technical data analysis, and review profiling results with the business to identify data quality rules for critical data.
  • Internally within the practice you will have the opportunity to shape the Data Governance CoE and offerings.

Qualifications

Required Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • 15 years relevant work experience.
  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Proficiency in tools/languages such SQL, Informatica, AWS S3 Data Lakes.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, data movement and data quality with Big Data, relational and dimensional modeling, and unstructured data stores.
  • In-depth knowledge of databases (SQL, NoSQL), data modeling, modern ETL processes (batch, lambda, delta) and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Experience in software development environments using Agile / SCRUM, and code management/versioning (e.g., git).
  • Prior consulting experience required, presenting proposed approach, concepts, solution to senior stakeholders.
  • Effective communicator, comfortable building relationships and achieving consensus across a diverse set of business & IT stakeholders.
  • Previous data architect, design experience working in a Data Architecture, Data Governance & Data Management environment. Knowledgeable about data lake, data warehousing and business intelligence concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with data catalog, data lineage products such as Informatica.
  • Experience leading and implementing data governance programs, solid understanding of data management & governance concepts.
  • Strong experience in eliciting and documenting data requirements and data quality rules.
  • Creative ability, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility, and self-confidence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for aesthetic design.
  • Willingness to facilitate requirements gathering/analysis workshops.
  • Strong work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations.
  • Self-motivated with a curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to manage time and work independently to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work successfully in a varying paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build consensus with business partners and mediate when appropriate.
  • Excellent analytical, research, critical thinking, organizational, and planning skills.

PreferredExperience  

  • Experience working with manufacturing or automotive industries.
  • Experience architecting data engineering, data science and AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google, or Azure.
  • Experience architecting, building, and operationalizing data warehouses or data lakes on cloud Datawarehouse platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query or Databricks.
  • Experience designing, building out and operationalizing a modern data stack.
  • Solution Architect and/or Data Engineering Certifications on one or more cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Informatica cloud platform for master data, meta data, and data quality.
