Canton High School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as a Math/Computer Science teacher for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond (start date of August 26, 2024). The anticipated course assignment will include one section of Computer Science for the 24-25 school year. This course is supported by Project Lead the Wayfunding and resources.

The Math/Computer Science teacher will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families, and staff.

Our mathematics department recently underwent a major curriculum review and as a result, we now offer integrated pathways as well as traditional high school math courses in the College Preparatory, Honors, Accelerated, and Advanced Placement levels.

JOB SUMMARY

Canton High School educators provide well-organized, enriching learning environments in which students can access Massachusetts standards-based curriculum and develop social and emotional skills in a safe and supportive educational environment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional practices that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop lesson plans and written curriculum that align with the state standards
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students varying needs
  • Use relevant instructional technology to support a variety of learning styles
  • Observe and evaluate students performance and development
  • Assign and grade assignments and assessments through a variety of methods
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school community
  • Participate in department and school/staff meetings and professional development sessions
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
  • Keep up to date with advancements in subject area curriculum, teaching resources, and instructional practices and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Mathematics, 8-12
  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  • Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and other instructional technology platform

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with Computer Science curriculum or willingness to participate in professional development/training

REPORTS TO: Department Chair and Building Administrators

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

COMPENSATION: per Collective Bargaining Agreement
