JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for assisting the Farmers Market Coordinator with the supervision of Canton Township's Farmers Market, Community Garden programming, and various related special events. Work assignments will occur at various locations, including Preservation Park, Summit on the Park, Village Theater at Cherry Hill, Canton Sports Center, B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center, and Pheasant Run Golf Course.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)

• Supports the Farmers Market Coordinator in the planning, supervision and coordination of the Canton Farmers Market and related programs and activities as assigned.
• Coordinates the set-up, tear-down and clean-up of programs and events.
• Builds professional relationships with vendors, staff, volunteers and guests.
• Responsible for training, scheduling, evaluating, and supervising part-time/seasonal staff as directed.
• Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment for programs and activities.
• Administers safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures for both employees and the general public.
• Professionally prepares information and reports.
• Maintains accurate program, activity and equipment records.
• Responsible for remaining aware of community needs and current trends related to Farmers Markets and the recreation field to ensure the delivery of quality customer service.
• Ensures that proper ADA accommodations are being met related to program and facility resources.
• Responsible for the enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures and policies.
• Responsible for responding to, communicating, and documenting incidents and emergency situations, including, but not limited to, First Aid, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events.
• Safely drives and operates Township vehicles.
• Prioritizes and performs multiple tasks and assignments, meeting deadlines.
• Trains and manages volunteers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• High School graduate or GED Required.
• Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns, which includes, but is not limited to, convictions of reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
• Must possess or earn CPR and First Aid certifications within 60 days of employment.
• Experience in planning special events and logistics, meetings, or other professional programming preferred.
• Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, with an emphasis on Sundays during the regular Market Season, which runs from May through October each year.
• Previous customer service experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with cash-handling and report-writing preferred.
• Strong organizational and both written and verbal communication skills required.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Michigan chauffeur license within 7 days of hire.
• Ability to perform manual lifting and loading of program supplies and equipment.
• Capability to quickly learn and manage recreation software applications and website content.
• Willingness and ability to problem-solve and to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to convey a positive and professional image to staff and community members at all times.
• Ability to execute policies and procedures with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
• Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities.
• Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
• This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.

• This is a variable hour job opportunity. Employee's hours will fluctuate week to week. Work hours will be determined based on workload and availability.
• This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as variable hour employees.
