Our Content & Discovery Org
Content & Discovery is Canva’s fastest-growing group, with over 600 staff including product managers, engineers, product designers, visual designers, data scientists, creative contractors, and more; it traces its lineage to Canva’s very first team! (“Marketplace”). We own Canva’s content strategy across supply and demand. Canva wouldn’t be the same without its library of content and the ability to discover it to kickstart creativity.
The SEO Group
As the Global Head of SEO, you will build and lead our rapidly growing cross-functional product, design, marketing, and engineering team through strategy, development and implementation of SEO technologies to make Canva the best answer on search for every design need. You will be laser-focused on out-performing SEO for every Canva product and continue to scale our operations through optimized and efficient automated systems.
We are not looking to make small step changes. We are striving for significant growth in this space and are looking to invest heavily with the right leader at the helm.
The Role
As an experienced growth leader, you’ll play a key role in bringing together expertise across SEO, product, design, and marketing to build a holistic vision and strategy that accelerates Canva’s broader company goals.
You’ll have experience not only leading but growing teams, and will play a key role in owning cross-functional resourcing across product, marketing, SEO, engineering, and operations.
You’ll have experience scaling SEO tech and have built programmatic SEO to drive growth at Canva’s scale.
You’re an expert communicator and collaborator and can rally your teams towards goals that have real business impact.
You believe strategy is as much about deciding what not to do as what to do, and are comfortable making tradeoffs in alignment with the broader company roadmap and goals.
What you'll do
- Own Canva’s organic growth via SEO.
- Drive organic acquisition strategies and collaborate with teams across the company to see them through to implementation.
- Building a scalable and efficient SEO model leveraging programmatic and automated systems to meet Canva's growth and scale.
- Directly responsible for leading Canva’s cross-functional SEO group and setting and achieving growth objectives.
- Responsible for the big-picture performance of SEO, including deep alignment with broader marketing strategy and performance and core product and marketing experiences.
- Responsible for defining and driving team growth plans to ensure delivery of a successful SEO growth strategy, including playing a crucial role in hiring and coaching of key leaders in the team.
- Build a framework and process to build a cross-functional SEO roadmap with a team of technical SEO specialists, marketers, product managers, and designers.
- Identify key milestones to reach hyper-growth and lead the team to execute against these milestones.
- Achieve deep alignment of your plans with teams around the business that rely on SEO to achieve their goals.

- A track record of leading globally distributed, highly-effective, engaged organizations of multiple layers across product, SEO, design, and engineering specialties.
- Deep domain expertise in SEO / Organic Acquisition, we are looking for a world-class leader to accelerate our success.
- An in-depth understanding of the technologies to power organic search, and how SEO enables growth of new users and customer segments.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to build and scale core SEO technology (Programmatic SEO).
- Demonstrated experience as a T-shaped leader with the ability to take our current technologies, and close the gap between the “now” and our future vision.
- A strong product lens and comprehensive understanding of Canva’s product features and capabilities, and how to translate our vision into the Organic Search landscape.
- Experience operating across high-growth, fast-paced organizations, working with stakeholders at all levels to develop an identity for SEO that aligns with the company vision.
- Goal-driven. Able to manage multiple, complex projects, with differing deadlines - keep people on track and informed, and ensure the goals are clear and met.
- Experience in B2C/B2B internet businesses, online marketplaces or large-scale e-commerce companies is a plus.
We are open to candidates based in our West Coast USA hubs (San Fransisco or Los Angeles), or in Sydney, Australia. Canva is committed to hiring the best person to lead our incredible SEO Group, and as such will also provide visa and relocation support for candidates based outside of these locations.
