University Relations Representative

General Purpose                 

The University Relations Representative will support the efforts of the Director of University Relations and affiliated staff in growing the partnerships with all of Canvas Credit Union higher education partners in Colorado including Colorado State University, Colorado State University Pueblo, Colorado High School Activities Assn., Poudre & Thompson School Districts, and other educational partners who may be included in the future. This position will help to develop strategies to promote the Canvas Credit Union brand and awareness with all partners.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Enhance current relationships with key University stakeholders and in tandem with the Director, act as the liaison between them and Canvas Credit Union.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Canvas’ consumer and commercial products.
  • Increase utilization of the credit union’s products and services as well as loan/deposit growth with new and existing members, partners, alumni, and students as well as affinity/loyalty alumni cards and other programs where applicable.
  • Network throughout Universities, community, and various professional organizations to build a positive public image and gain brand recognition for the Canvas.
  • Review and evaluate the event calendars of each of our university partners and their Alumni Associations and prioritize those where Canvas should have a presence.
  • Work with other University Relations/Business Development staff to respond to assist as needed with any University related requests for proposals.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and represent Canvas Credit Union at a variety of events hosted by Canvas, Universities and other organizations and individuals. Be present for On-Campus engagements to help with event execution.
  • Attend all meetings surrounding those events and work closely with university employees to help implement.
  • Identify community and media opportunities where Canvas can leverage our relationships in the community.
  • Attend new employee orientations on a monthly basis as needed to support Canvas family members presentations.
  • Conduct research and provide recommendations to management regarding business development strategies and tactics the credit union should take to grow its presence on university campuses for all partners.
  • Develop and present information about new partners and business development progress.
  • Ensure positive and effective relationships with current and future University, school district and respective educational institutional partners including students, faculty, staff, members, community partners and employees.
  • Maintain accurate reporting, appropriate tracking and measurement of new business development initiatives and results.
  • Directly serve strategic initiatives set by senior leadership and the executive community engagement team
  • Regularly exercised independent judgment on matters of significance related to university relations at the credit union
  • Actively promote and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Recommend and help develop and implement new policies and procedures.
  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
  • Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
  • Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
  • Adhere to regular attendance and punctuality practices.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Demonstrated track record of success in sales and customer service. Proven success in building strong customer relationships and new business development.  Must have a solid working knowledge of generally accepted sales processes.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior presentation and facilitation skills to effectively manage large and small group presentations, meetings, and events.
  • Strong relationship building and teamwork skills with ability to develop and maintain consultative relationships with Canvas staff, Universities, and community members.
  • Knowledge and understanding of credit union financial products and services.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills; able to work independently and manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado drivers’ license and provide proof of insurance.
  • Ability to maintain confidences.
  • Multi-lingual capabilities to include Spanish are a plus.
  • Pre-employment background review (components include criminal, employment, address, social security number, motor vehicle record, sex offender, and global sanctions).

Education or Formal Training:  bachelor’s degree in business or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience:  Minimum of five years of experience developing strategic relationships at large universities or similar educational institutions with successful results building relationships with chancellors, presidents, athletic directors, faculty, staff, donors as well as alumni groups.

The starting pay range for this position is $63,000.00-$79,000.00/annual, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience and internal equity factors.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

Office environment with frequent travel.  Must be able to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends to attend meetings and events.   The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets.  The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets.  The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
