GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The full-time, tenure-track Performing Arts Program Coordinator and Faculty Member position includes teaching, advising, and college service responsibilities as well as year-round development and oversight of the A.A. in Performing Arts Program and related courses.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Program Coordination:

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the A.A. in Performing Arts program, with a primary focus on increasing student enrollment and retention
  • Re-brand and market Performing Arts through an equity lens as an inclusive program that welcomes and respects a college community that comprises a diverse group of students including Black, Latin, Asian, and Indigenous peoples; members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, and/or questioning communities; immigrants; first-generation college students; people with a wide range of capacities, beliefs, and experiences; and all communities named and unnamed. Encourage students across all divisions to enroll in Performing Arts courses and participate in productions
  • Collaborate with the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing. Assist in developing marketing materials (e.g., social media, broadcast media, institutional web page, flyers, brochures, mailings, etc.) that promote the value of the performing arts to a well-rounded liberal arts and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education. Coordinate recruitment with Admissions and Advising teams
  • Collaborate with faculty members across disciplines to develop and revise the curriculum to incorporate a range of skills relevant for students within and outside the Performing Arts Program and to encourage faculty in other disciplines to promote performing arts courses as a means to gain valuable professional skills
  • Form relationships with colleagues at transfer institutions and cultivate existing relationships. Develop new and promote existing articulation agreements
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local arts organizations, schools, and community groups to foster partnerships and create engagement and career opportunities for students.
  • Monitor and assess the program's effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate changes
  • Position the Performing Arts courses and productions as spaces to increase a sense of belonging among members of the campus community
  • Generate engaging opportunities to bring students and community together during the academic year and in summer programs
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and supporting adjunct faculty in the department

Instruction and College Service:

  • Provide instruction in the field of Performing Arts to a diverse student population using anti-racist pedagogy and consent-forward practices. The faculty member will teach in at least two areas of the theater discipline: acting, directing, dance, voice, technical production, set design, etc.
  • Hold contractually required student office hours, provide academic advising to assigned students, and participate in five weekly hours of college service
  • Participate in professional development activities both on and off campus to stay current in pedagogical trends and the discipline
  • Attend and participate in all division, department, and faculty governance activities to contribute to the overall academic environment and advancement of the department and the institution

Performance Direction:

  • Direct one production per academic year, working with faculty and the Tilden Arts Center team to select appropriate scripts and oversee all aspects of the production process, including auditions, rehearsals, set design, costume selection, and technical elements
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to actors, helping them develop their performance skills, self-confidence, and artistic vision
  • Collaborate with the Tilden Arts Center technical team, stage crew, and other relevant staff to ensure a successful production
  • Encourage and facilitate student involvement in all aspects of the production, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment
  • Invite members of the college community and local community to participate in productions

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Performing Arts or a related field (completed or in progress) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing arts program coordination
  • Proven ability to direct productions, with a strong understanding of theatrical processes and best practices
  • Demonstrated track record teaching a diverse student body, preferably at the community college level
  • Proven effectiveness in using anti-racist pedagogy and consent-forward practices to support a student-centered, equity-focused, growth- minded, and outcome-based approach to education
  • Strong commitment to student success, academic excellence, and fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MFA or MA in Performing Arts
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination within a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated track record of effectiveness teaching a diverse student body at the community college level
  • Experience using anti-racist pedagogy and consent-forward practices to support a student-centered, equity-focused, growth-minded, and outcomes-based approach to education
  • Knowledge of local theater and performance communities and potential employment market for program majors
  • Experience using Moodle or similar LMS

COMPENSATION:

Full-time MCCC position. Salary range of $51,678-$63,819. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, determined by a formula-based classification system, consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program. Note: This position includes the opportunity for summer teaching and programming.
