Cape Veterinary Clinic is looking for a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to Join Our Team!

Location: 51 Ocean Street, South Portland, ME 04106

 

Veterinary Assistant Compensation: $18 - $22 Pay depending on experience. We will be offering Urgent Care hours in the fall with a pay differential of $3.00/hour 

 

Shift Details: Mental health and maintinaing a healthy work/life balance is  important to us. We offer 4/10 hour shifts and every other Saturday coverage.

 

*Once our Urgent Care hours begin, we will have weekend hours Saturday's and Sunday's from 8am - 8pm. This will be offered on a rotating weekend basis.*

 

Current Clinic Hours:

  • Monday - Friday 8-6
  • Saturday 8 - 12 (rotating)

Skills: IV catheter placement, venipuncture, anesthetic monitoring and more.

 

Our 5 doctor, small animal practice is well-established in a very desirable ocean-side community and is continuing to grow rapidly. With the arrival of our new veteirnarian in July, we are looking to grow our support staff. We have exciting plans on the horizon.

 

We are looking to incorporate Urgent Care to our offered services by this fall. We will offer care for common urgent cases, including wound management, ear infections, vomiting/diarrhea, and euthanasia. Each of our paperless clinics is specially designed to deliver efficient care.

 

This position is a hybrid role incorporating Veterinary Assisting with a Patient Care Coordinator. The Patient Care Coordinator stays with the client from check-in to check out. Your can expect your time to be split doing technical skills such as IV catheter placement, venipuncture, restraint as well as captures medical notes, creates treatment plans, coordinates treatment with technical teams, and follows up post visit.

Including 2 full surgery suites, dental procedures, critical care, wellness programs, and day hospitalization for our inpatient cuties.

Responsibilities

How you'll make an impact:

  • Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in all of their duties
  • The Veterinary Assistant helps to prepare animals for exams and surgery.
  • The Veterinary Assistant aids in performing medical treatments.
  • The Veterinary Assistant will perform or prepare laboratory tests.
  • The Veterinary Assistant will administer medications under the direction of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician.
  • The Veterinary Assistant will obtain and properly handle/prepare in-house and laboratory specimens (cytology, blood draws, blood smear, fecal, etc.)
  • The Veterinary Assistant works in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs.
  • The Veterinary Assistant handles animals and their owners in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform staff and clients of any pertinent medical information related to animal care.
  • The Veterinary Assistant maintains a healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals.

 

 

Qualifications

Physical demands and work environment

  • The Veterinary Assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills.
  • The Veterinary Assistant must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
  • The Veterinary Assistant is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
  • The Veterinary Assistant must be fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.
  • The Veterinary Assistant must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.
