What are the responsibilities and job description for the Portfolio Account and Collections Officer position at Capital Bank?
Position Purpose
The Commercial Lending Collections Officer is responsible for the routine administration of a portfolio of loans under the responsibility of the Bank’s Credit Department and will include collection of past due accounts and partnering with Relationship Managers and Credit Management team on the execution of approved strategy/workout plans for non-performing loans to minimize losses to the Bank.
Position Responsibilities
- Contact and communicate effectively with the Bank’s loan customers to negotiate and implement plans to resolve past due status.
- Work with Business Development and Credit team to collect past due financial statements to analyze and propose effective and realistic plans for resolution of past due or delinquent borrowers.
- Ability to perform detailed searches of relevant customer information using publicly available data as well as the Bank’s internal tools and systems to keep track of and stay informed of the circumstances affecting past due or delinquent borrowers.
- Work with Bank’s designated counsel for legal matters and initiate legal proceedings at the direction of Management to include foreclosure and other remedies in the event of default.
- Ability to articulate and document written workout strategies as well as monitor effectiveness including payment reporting and satisfaction of collection agreement requirements.
- Prepare ongoing written loan level status updates for the Bank’s Problem Loans and meet minimum performance metrics.
- Demonstrate an ability to creatively apply and use expertise appropriate to a specialized project or situation/problem that provides benefit to the Bank overall.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
- 5 years of experience in a commercial lending environment with proven experience in commercial collections, credit evaluation, portfolio risk assessment and/or special assets.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of regulatory compliance requirements with a particular focus on credit collection and debt practices.
- Demonstrate an ability to be part of a harmonious working relationship among the credit team as well as internal Bank clients with an ability to exercise good judgment.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of credit and financial analysis tools and techniques.
- Ability to identify and quantify business risks and the key drivers of risk and focus decisions accordingly.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities in a multi-task environment and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows based applications.
