Registered Nurse 2 Psychiatric Duties: Serves as a charge nurse, mentor, preceptor, and resource to nurses and direct care staff; and assesses, develops, implements, provides, and monitors nursing care for assigned individuals. Serves as charge nurse; assigns and delegate’s work; directs, oversees, and maintains operations on assigned units; assists and provides guidance and instruction to nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individuals’ nursing care; and conducts or directs nursing and direct care staff in the implementation of nursing interventions and care activities for individuals. Provides direct nursing care to individuals, particularly those who require advanced clinical interventions; assesses health education needs; and provides health counseling and teaching to individuals and families. Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions in meeting individuals’ needs and enhancing outcomes; and implements improved practice methods and other necessary modifications to ensure quality nursing care. Participates on treatment teams, attends meetings, and collaborates with other health care staff and disciplines to ensure that individuals’ needs are addressed. Acts as liaison to outside agencies and providers to ensure continuity of care and the necessary follow-up for individuals; advocates for individuals’ needs; and may provide instruction to providers on individuals’ discharge plans. Participates in facility admissions; develops, updates, and monitors nursing care objectives in treatment plans for individuals; and administers nursing treatments. Demonstrates and teaches proper techniques for nursing procedures and the use of specialized equipment to nursing staff. serves as a mentor to new nurses; identifies education and training needs for nursing and direct care staff; observes individual care activities, reviews records, and discusses staff and program requirements with facility managers and nurse educators. May serve as a member of various committees and workgroups concerned with individual treatment and care issues or topics. Provides input in the development of clinical nursing policies and procedures.
Registered Nurse 2 Psychiatric Minimum Qualifications: Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in NYS and 2 years post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom has been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder. Note-Substitutions: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) may substitute for 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master’s degree in nursing (MSN) may substitute for 2 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
