Responsibilities
- Prepares for all phases of routine surgical pathology specimens for microscopic diagnosis, including processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and frozen sectioning.
- Determines the adequacy of routine and special stains including immunohistochemical stains according to departmental protocols.
- Receives, accessions and prepares cytopathology specimens for processing.
- Performs a variety of special histochemical and immunohistochemical stains according to departmental protocol.
- Keeps manual and/or computerized records accurate and current for quality control and equipment maintenance. Performs routine maintenance on equipment as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Advises supervisor of supply needs and reagents out-dates. Performs departmental inventory. Orders supplies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Laboratory or related field.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) certification required.
- One year experience as a Histotechnologist in a clinical setting.
- Familiarity with personal computers.
- Frequent physical demands include: Sitting , Standing , Walking , Carry objects, Push/Pull , Twisting , Bending , Reaching forward , Reaching overhead , Wrist position deviation , Pinching/fine motor activities Occasional physical demands include: Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders) , Squat/kneel/crawl , Taste or Smell Continuous physical demands include: Keyboard use/repetitive motion , Talk or Hear Lifting Floor to Waist 50 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 50 lbs.
