What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Portfolio Delivery position at Capital One?
Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering & Delivery Excellence, this role will play a key strategic role in our data transformation journey. A strong candidate will have a diverse and proven track record of delivering solutions from discovery through implementation as well as analytical and communication skills required for leading and delivering a new initiative. They will be able to communicate across software and data engineering teams and our business while ensuring strong collaboration between technology and product areas. Influence and the ability to build relationships within technology and our product partners will be required to ultimately deliver on the needs of our customers. This person will be a critical thinker and thrive in working across teams and be able to influence the development of scope and roadmaps with some ambiguity.
This role requires someone with a proven track record of collaborating across tech, business, design as well as agile and portfolio teams to understand complex problems and use analytical insights to drive delivery and process improvements. Candidates must have the proven ability to quickly put structure in place to manage operations in a dynamic, complex environment.

Leads multiple Agile release trains dedicated to Data Transformation
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills

Provides mentoring to agile teams and assists in the development of capability-based solutions, technical requirement determination and value analysis
Lead, manage and grow a team of portfolio managers and agile professionals, guiding the professional and technical development
Create strong partnership with leaders in Product, Technology, and other key stakeholders that drive delivery of portfolio goals and objectives within an Agile delivery culture
Proactively identify gaps in technology and process and develop a strategic plan to drive holistic, horizontal solutions that reduce challenges and toil faced by engineers
Drive prioritization, grooming and solutioning of enterprise initiatives, providing ready to implement solutions for teams
Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
Lead portfolio to deliver prioritized outcomes and goals while maintaining focus on quality, continuous delivery, and continuous improvement
Focus on providing transparency of portfolio progress towards commitments and outcomes and proactively address questions
Ensure portfolio alignment to enterprise and local delivery controls, policies, procedures, and standards to minimize operational/reputational risk in order to be well managed
Understands and articulates the “why” behind key business/tech priorities to drive shared understanding of value
Drives dependency, risk, and impediment management within and across portfolios and applies knowledge of initiatives as well as relationships with key stakeholders to enable transparency and escalation as needed
Mastery of complex facilitation and dependency management techniques to drive cross-program and portfolio planning, collaboration, and coordination
Leverage data to optimize delivery across business and technology by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, with measurable outcomes balancing data with other factors in decision making
Act as talent magnet to recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best delivery talent
Assesses the organization’s current Agile fluency at portfolio, program and team levels and sets direction for measuring growth
Identifies opportunities and action plans for improvement within the organization
Serves as a trusted advisor for senior leaders about strategic use of Agile practices and methodologies
Advises on delivery metrics for the organization at senior levels
Builds a culture that fosters Diversity and Inclusion and helps build and mature diverse teams
Shares Agile Delivery innovations outside of the organization team to encourage reuse and adoption by other groups
Demonstrates executive level judgment and uses their time for highest leverage initiatives
Coaching
Displays pragmatic leadership, change management, and influence in applying Engineering, Agile and Lean best practices to move broader teams forward
Advances Business, Technology, and Operations leadership’s understanding of their respective roles within iterative software delivery, and influences organizational agility
Coaches and influences Product and Tech Leaders to develop a combined, prioritized backlog
Demonstrates innovation of large scale delivery in an Agile way
Creates a safe, inclusive, and open culture where all job families work together as one team to achieve the portfolio's delivery goals

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent work experience
At least 7 years of experience in Agile and Portfolio management in agile software development environment
At least 5 years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Business, Computer Science or related field
13 years of experience in Agile and Portfolio Management in agile software development environment
8 years of people management experience
Lean Portfolio Management (LPM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile, or Six Sigma certification
SAFe certified or experience (or other scaled agile frameworks)
